everyone wants a lump sum but
wouldn't it make more sense to get an annuity then go to one of those services that buy annuities? For example if i won the florida lottery right now, as it is 6 million i would only take home about 2,225,000. BUT if i got the annuity and found somebody to buy me out I could get more than that, maybe even 4 million? I'm just thinking out loud, i have no idea how those services work.

Do you still feel the same about Cash Option or Annuity??
I'm asking in the current economic enviroment is your opinion of Cash Vs. Annuity still the same? I ask this because of the fluctuating stock market and states like California asking for Bailouts.
My thoughts are I wouldn't trust the state to control my money and dole it out to me. As a voluntary tax I doubt many tax payers would agree to send Millions of Dollars to a state lottery agency for their debt obligations. So While you probably would get your money eventually if worse came to

Florida MegaMoney - 76% payout?
That's what happens when a lottery still uses a 20 year annuity and interest rates get really low. With a 26 year annuity, the cash value for MM is up to a bit over 67% right now, and it's been going up a bit with each rollover. When it gets hit and we start over it will probably be about 70%.

$42M lottery winner plans to become a pecan farmer
smart couple, I would take the annuity too!! There's no reason I would need all of that $$$ at once, plus that way it would possibly deter some of the Beggars that heard you won the lottery from knocking on your door. I would say, well I only get an annuity and it's all tied up right now. but that's just me

Group of nine claims $207M Powerball lottery jackpot
I would assume that the change in the annuity amount is because they sold more tickets than they expected. If that's the case, the cash amount will still be the same percentage of the annuity value. 101.1/200=50.55%. .5055*207 million is 104.64 million.

How are payments invested?
Mega Millions is closer to 39-40% less than the jackpot at this point though that's probably because their annuity pays out over I think, five less years than Powerball. For example right now the advertised jackpot at 70 million has a cash option of 42.5 million which is 60.7% of the annuity.

Kellogg's worker won't change much after winning $1M lottery jackpot
Good for them and for a million dollar annuity life shouldn't change that much anyway. It should be used to fund their retirement, hopefully they don't do something stupid and then fall for the annuity selling scam.

Do You Tell?
I mentioned this in another thread. The annuity jackpot values are false advertising. A person that won a jackpot sued attempting to get the annuity value as cash up front. He lost, but had a good case.
