Realities of winning the lottery
Your basic message that it's very unlikely to turn a profit in the lottery is something that almost every one already knows. Running the model is interesting but the odds and the prize structure already tell us what we can expect. Lotteries usually pay out 50 cents on the dollar, and I expect a lot of people think that's about what they can expect to get back over the long term. The reality is, as you've noted, that even pools that buy an enormous number of tickets are very unlikely to win the j

Alphanumeric substitution strategy
Bobby623,
Isn't trying to predict the next draw, the objective? We analyze the prior drawings, try to observe trends, patterns, commonalities, associations, recurrences through some form of data analyisis to predict the next draw, or at least get a edge on getting a winning set of numbers on the next draw. Everybody here is essentially trying to improve the odds in their favor, we cannot with any certainty predict jack, but we try anyway, it is a gamble every time. Predicting the future i

jackpot lottery pool
I run a lottery pool at my office. It started with me and the lady at the desk next to mine, but then 4 other people joined in. I'm trying to keep it small as the bigger it gets, the harder it will be to manage.
What we do in our pool is every 2 weeks on payday, we each put up $4. I then buy 3 Powerball and 3 Louisiana Lotto tickets for the next 4 drawings that will occur between then and the next payday. If we win anything, we split all of our winnings evenly. What I'll often do is if

Cycles - Interesting Numbers
Today I had a good day.
I have been having trouble with finalising my number selections to reduce the total number of numbers for my play pool.
Quick recap...
I am so far able to generate between 4 to 6 of the winning numbers in a 6/45 game with a play pool of between 12 to 24 numbers. Consistency has been fairly random as I test this across larger and larger numbers of games.
So today I did a little tweak and had a light bulb moment.
I figured out a way to structure my play pool

New Florida Jackpot Game
Cash 3 and Play 4 are offered at $.50 plays, so there's no reason they couldn't offer that on a jackpot game. And I'm not talking about a $1.50 play, I'm talking about an actual $.50 play option on a jackpot game. But to make that price point work, they would have to design a game that would generate the sales volume and frequency of play that would support the pricing. Which, in my opinion, would hinge on the balance of odds vs. payout. The greatest power a player has is in the choice to play,

if invited to join a lottery pool at work: would you or not?
Here is the latest lottery pool agreement. We sign a new one for every drawing.
The following individuals agree to join a lottery pool for the Mega Millions drawing on 12/13/13.
Each participant shall have contributed $5 prior to signing this document. Only the participants who have contributed $5 and signed this document shall be eligible to share in the winnings from this drawing.
In the event that prizes are won, with a total equal to or exceeding $1 per person, the lottery pool

Two workers in lottery pool sue over $118 million ticket
Reality is... these JackPot winners SHOULD NOT be liable to split the jackpot with the other NON-participants. The Roll over money that existed should simply be paid out according to percentage of the Lottery Pool to the 2 players that were in the pool previously. So $9.00 divided by number of players for that draw is what SHOULD be paid out to those individuals who were NOT a part of the JackPot winning draw.
If these Lottery Players who DID NOT participate were so concerned about NOT being

Why Do Mathematicians Consider The Lottery Random
I see, when all else fails, just call me a liar. I see how you work now....whatever...yeah, I'm lying because I have nothing better to do than sit here and win an argument with you.
No, I don't believe someone can have that much luck. Once or twice, maybe 3 or 4 times in a row, but not continually for 10 months. That's just denial on your part.
I already told you how he does it. He plays the remaining p-4 numbers in one state which I won't mention because I respect his privacy. In that sta

24 employees at Toledo retirement home rejoice over big lottery win
Lest there be any confusion, David Moyer and Peggy Park want everyone to know morale is now high among employees at Oakleaf Village of Toledo.
Scratch that. Practically everyone, including the retirees, were going bonkers Wednesday after learning that 24 of the 77 employees at the retirement home had just won $250,000 from the Ohio Lottery's Mega Millions game. They hit on five of six numbers with their best ticket.
