Paying a jackpot over 26 years is too long of a time frame
I agree that the advertising makes the jackpot seem very inflated, but it's like the ad in the newspaper that says chairs from $99.
I'd say it's more like a car dealer promising they'll pay at least $5000 for any trade. When you come in, or if you look carefully at the website, they disclose the details and tell you that the $5000 will be paid as $50 per month for 100 months. That means it isn't fraud, but if all they advertise is at least $5000 for any trade then the advertising is false a

You win the mega millions $163 million on tuesday.
Perfect Timing, as another member said here - if you win a lot of money, get professional counseling. Do you know what irrevocable means? It means you lose control over your money. There are so many posts on LP about Trusts as if they are a means to avoid taxation. A Trust is mainly to set up an estate so when you die your heirs will be protected from probate. It's also a way to control how your beneficiaries receive funds so they don't blow their inheritance all in one place. However, ch

Most lottery players never see big payoff
Where does the money come from to pay you 4 or 5%?
What is your rate of return if you are paid 4 or 5% nominal return, while actual inflation (loss of purchasing power) is 8%? Here's a hint, it's less than zero.
Now, many people buy the big lie about how purchasing the Dow 30 components in some given year and holding on over so many years would return so much percent. This is garbage. When a Dow company falls on hard times, it gets taken out of the index and replaced with a successful c

Tenn. Lottery CEO claims sales unhurt by numerous errors
The only time I was ever required to sign the back of a ticket and show ID was when I hit the Pick-4 straight and 5 out of 6 in the Lotto and that was because the payoff was over $600. If somebody actually knew which number was going to be drawn in advance, it wouldn't be very difficult cashing one or two $500 tickets at multiple stores without ever signing their name or showing ID. This type of investigation proves nothing.
Experienced state lotteries officials know that certain Pick-3 numbe

New York Lottery won't pay $25,000 for taped-up scratch-off ticket
Patricia Manzitto and her lawyer know the ticket is not a winning ticket but they are trying to make an argument similar to that of a Florida woman two years ago when she bought a scratch-off on which a number hadn't been completely printed and matched another one on her ticket for $250K.
Was that the case where the 3 was scratched off from 13 to make it look like a 1 ?
Manzitto's lawyer is arguing that if the two halves sold to her client could be made to look like a winner on fi

scratchers for tips
With more fraud and joke tickets these days, people receiving one might be more skeptical.
OMG,I forgot about those joke tickets, you're right! I saw some for sale on an online novelty shop when I was looking for a whoppee cushion. They look just like the real thing!
Sorry if I sounded so defensive, timetreat. Even though I haven't done that work for years, it still sticks in my craw how cheap people were even when you give great service. Guess I still have a lot of unspent anger towa

if you found a winning ticket that wasn't yours
Here's a story, of a lovely lady....well maybe not so lovely. But it just goes to show what I was saying earlier in this thread about how people will come out of the woodwork to claim a prize.
It turns out that this lady claimed that the 162 mil prize was really hers. Turns out that her last name isn't Battle , and she has a history of fraud.
The ticket is a bearer instrument, and Ohio agrees...lol
If it's unsigned, it's mine, unless someone can come out of the woodwork and prove to m

if you found a winning ticket that wasn't yours
Ok. I gotta chime in on this one. The IRS doesn't nickel and dime, they don't care. It is too time consuming for them to go after the little ones. Remember, the majority of taxes paid to the IRS comes from business and the top 10% of income earners I am talking like 90% of the collected taxes comes from the top income brackets.
Any money that you make and keep in your mattress unreported, is just that, in your mattress. They only know about it if you bank it and earn interest on it. I ha

N.C. Lottery foe confident that lottery will be ruled an illegal tax
Quote about oob borr. And wouldn't you know it: unleashed from the bench, Orr's inner politician roared. He's now seeking the Republican nomination for governor. And what a nice little issue on which to have cornered the market: The lottery, beloved by Governor Easley and other top state Democrats, is accused of being a legislative fraud.
And what a poor excuse for a republican this guy is>>>> Another grandstander looking to put his name in the book. When are the people from NC, g

Millions in Atlantic Lottery winnings under police investigation
Police will examine millions of dollars worth of questionable winnings by lottery retailers after an independent investigation revealed gaping holes in how the Atlantic Lottery Corp. protects its customers from dishonest sellers.
In the latest blow to Canada's embattled lottery business, a forensic accounting team found what the Crown-owned agency described as unethical and suspicious dealings between some retailers and purchasers in Atlantic Canada.
