Cash Options of Jackpots
I agree, but is that because the payout is longer with PB so a smaller annuity would yield more money over 30 years than 26 years? Obviously it's done on purpose, but I think all jackpots (state or multi-state) should be paid out over 20 years or 25 at the most. I might be wrong, but I think more people would take annual payments if they offered a shorter term. Although I might consider annual payments if I won a jackpot, I would never want a graduated annuity at my age and 30 years is a long

Hoosier Lottery
If you take the lump sum, you can't complain about being $30 million short of the annuity prize. It's annuity, of course it's going to be a lot higher than the lump sum. It goes the same with PowerBall and Mega Millions. Also, I would like to see official documentation that the lump sum is exactly 40%.

WI Million Dollar Draw
I am a non-Cheese Head who foolishly bought an Illinois raffle ticket; I did so just because there were 4 top prizes of $1M (annuity); Wisconsin's raffle only features one top prize of $1M (annuity), so there is no way I would even drop a dollar on that raffle. I'd rather take my chances on PB, MegaBucks, or even Super Cash.

MM now at $355 million
I hope it does hit there because it will unseat Powerball's "record," which is not really a record because the $365 million annuity was worth only $177 million cash. If there's any justice, the jackpot will be at least $366 million annuity.

All states Lottery...tax free
Idaho didn't tax until they got an $80 million Powerball winner, then all the sudden they added up how much money they were losing, and implemented the tax. BTW at that time there was no cash option on the PB so the winner has to pay state taxes every year now when she gets her annuity even tho there was no state tax when she won. One more reason people in states that do not tax should consider taking the lump sum instead of annuity because there's a good chance their state will get greedy t

Mega now at 340
If I don't win Mega on Tuesday, I hope it rolls once more so that its annuity will be a record too, but it probably won't roll. The current cash jackpot beats Powerball's "record" annuity's cash jackpot, even if you added the match 5 bonus pool cash to it (the $365 million PB annuity was worth $177 million cash, and the match 5 bonus pool had $20 million cash, totaling only $197 million).

Cancer victim struggles to get $1 million lottery prize in lump sum
To me a lottery offering an annuity-only prize is a lose-lose situation. The player has one less choice, and the lottery ends up with overhead since the lottery has to keep track of the winner's address(es) for many years (and have a backup system in place,) and has to spend much more on postage, etc to such winners instead of sending a single payment. I wonder sometimes whether MA and/or NY, which between them have numerous annuity-only games, have personnel whose primary (if not sole) job

Ohio Lottery panel rejects new Gov.'s call for smaller prizes
I've said numerous times that Ohio continues to make the same mistake for its in-state annuitized jackpot games. Mega Millions cash value winners (in all 12 states) get the actual retail value of the cash value of the annuity, minus withholdings. But Ohio continues to fix the cash value of the annuity (currently 50%) of its in-state game (Classic Lotto.) Therefore lump-sum winners of Ohio Classic Lotto will not get their full share of the cash value.

90-year-old wins $1 million in Fla. Lottery's Monopoly game
NY, which is known (at least to LP members) to have quite a few annuity-only tickets, does not do a good job warning players which games are non-cash. AFAIK the internet is the only true way you can find out if a NY scratch game is annuity-only. TV and radio commercials leave out the fine print .

Ohio Classic Lotto Numbers
Unfortunately, Ohio is continuing to shortchange cash option winners with the new Classic Lotto. The cash value is fixed at 50% of the annuity, instead of a (higher) floating percentage, which is the case with Mega Millions (the cash value % of the annuity fluctuates.) In Ohio, play MM instead.
