Lottery sales for the big national games are down. This is probably the main reason the Mega Millions game was recently changed. Even on my worst days I'm not nearly stupid enough to think they wouldn't have tried messing with the game even if sales were still what they were 3 to 5 years ago, but the change was definitely an attempt to increase sales. three doubles in a row day, two doubles in a row night. It's technically not five doubles in a row because day and night use different drawing methods. It's no more of an oddity than triple 8's showing up two times and less than 10 days. It's also more of an oddity that 936 has Never shown up straight on day draw.

i'd guess it's a jackpot (annuity) amount payout that could be supported by the actual sales. since the supported amount is a little lower than the advertised amount, it means the jackpot is a bit underfunded. but the gap between supported and advertised looks to be shrinking with each drawing, so by the time someone wins it will probably be ok.

The Mega Millions jackpot is growing slower than last time because it is being over shadowed by the much larger Powerball jackpot. And/or more of the people who aren't addicted are sitting it out for more general reasons about MM itself. The sales forecast for Friday are up about 5% over the previous Friday, so maybe we'll see another modest increase for Friday 8/1, too. Based on the last couple of increases we'll almost certainly see it advertised as 130 next Tuesday (funded at about 1
