Paranoid or Prudent?
@ Fibonacci: You are being absolutely prudent. With many of the states either doing computer drawings or pre/post tests , there is no reason to believe, with so much money involved, that if an outside system showed high corelation with the official results, that no changes whatsoever would be made to the number selection process. Anyone who would suggest otherwise would also have you believe there is no such thing as insider trading in the stock market (just ask Martha :-)).you won

Why do people try to justify their desire to win the Lottery?
As long as we're discussing belief systems, what about life in general? I mean, isn't life itself a gamble? I mean, 2 people somehow met (by fate?) and then had sex. You are a result of that procreation...not later that evening or early the next morning. You aren't only the result of that moment in time, but there were millions of other little sperm buddies swimming around to knock you out of the race. Another important factor is were those 2 people thinking GOOD or EVIL thoughts at the

Vancouver lottery winner loses in divorce case
It's really none of my business OldSchool. I am certainly no expert when it comes to marriages. I just would never keep a secret like that from my spouse. Anyway, I think your wife may be much smarter than you think. If you are self-employed and use Form 1040 along with Form SE and Schedule C, etc., it would be next to impossible to hide what you won only because you wouldn't be showing that income on those forms. I see you already thought of that. Depends on your relationship anyway. M

Jack W. On 20/20 Tonight
You hit it on the head Lilly. Most of the actions this guy engages in is about drawing attention to himself. Dressed up all in black and wearing a ten-gallon black cowboy hat when he went to collect the money is all about look at me, look at me . Taking nearly a half million in cash into a strip bar shows that he has a world class inferiority complex. Bragging about giving away $50 million is, of course, going to draw even more attention and leeches to yourself. Going on 20-20, going to draw mo

Conspiracy Theory ??
People all the time, after losing a $5 bet, accuse the casinos of cheating. We'd have to try and explain to them that no casino was going to do somdething to risk their license to get their $5. I don't think a state lottery would risk losing a cash cow like lotto. Not saying it never has or couldn't happen, but it doesn't really 'compute'. RickG Does Linda know about being replaced by a racing pony? Must have been a longshot that paid nicely!

Why do I play when I hate money
Yes, he was the first person who came to mind. Herbert Hoover was also a Quaker. If I began listing all the Quakers like James Dean, Bonnie Raitt, Joan Baez, then I'd be cheating since I googled the words famous Quakers just now. David Byrne is a Quaker. I always liked like the Talking Heads. Take me to the river, drop me in the water Take me to the river, dip me in the water Washing me down, washing me down

Lottery winner followed careful spending plan
If you type Gift Tax in a search engine, you'll see lots of articles on this same subject. In fact, if you use the Search feature on this board and type the words gift and tax you'll also find lots of interesting comments like yours. The IRS site defines what can be considered a tax exempt gift. I totally agree with you, not only about the gift tax but the inheritance tax. Forget the lottery for a minute. Say you work hard your whole life and put away money to give your children and
