Woman prepares for 9 months before claiming $8.8M lottery jackpot
Congrats to her but nine months? Really? I know it wasn't Powerball or Megamillions size jackpot but you'd think her lawyer would have suggested claiming it in a trust or partnership just to keep her and her family out of the press release, which is a legal way to do it in CT from what little bit I read. I guess that security was only in a financial sense, speaking of which, how much potential interest and dividends did she lose waiting almost a year? How much is the lawyer(s) getting for appare

Is the Lottery only for humans?
I was reading this press release and noticed where the ticket was purchased. So I wondered if Arnold The Pig was the lucky winner. After all, anyone can grunt quick pick. The rules say you just have to be 18 but don't indicate species.
Well, congrats to the winner. If it was Arnold, now he can really bring home the bacon!
Here is the news release from Monday morning:
The Florida Lottery announced today that one lucky player matched all five winning numbers in the Sunday, August 10, FA

Ball Drawers
Some states have added more games and now release all the game balls at the same time. When they drew them one at a time, there was always some anticipation especially when we needed that third number to hit it straight.
They still draw the Mega Millions numbers slow enough to write the numbers down and people can still sweat out the last numbers.

buying lottery tickets
I'd guess the law applies according to which state the ticket was purchased in. If 2 tickets were sold, then the one in the anon state will surely be allowed to stay anon if they wish, while the one sold in the other state will have their identity released.
If only one ticket was sold in a state that releases winner identities, and that person decided to share it with a friend/relative in a state that allows anonymity, then the person in the anon state will still be required to release their

Went public too soon?
I personally think that going public at anytime can be disatorous. I think that when people do that they are opening up another entirely different can of worms. I would have chosen to claim the funds under a trust and would have told the lottery officials that they are not to use my likeness (display any photo of me, or make any video and post it on the news, or internet, etc...) and they are not to release any of my information...
but hey, its there ticket, there win, and there decision.

List of States Which Allow Anonymous Winners
Missouri: (Website FAQ):
If I should win the jackpot, do I have the option of remaining anonymous to the public and the media?Missouri state law requires the Lottery to release your name, cityof residence and the amount of the prize.
You will also be asked, but are not required, to participate in a newsconference, most likely at the store where you purchased your winningticket. News conferences can also be held at a Lottery office. Thisprovides the media with a single photo opportunity

Which gives me a better chance of winning a lottery?
I'm not so sure I agree with you about hiding the number of tickets people play. I go to the same Publix all the time and see people dropping $100 bucks (and more) on scratchers and online games. I don't talk about the lottery with my family because they think it's irresponsible to play.
You do have a point, however. The lottery might tone it down when making a press release, so they don't give the impression that they're promoting addictive behavior, although they are!

Improvements to Lottery Post made this morning
In this post I'll describe changes that were made to Lottery Post this morning, as part of a huge web site update. It is the culmination of about a month of programming I have been doing since the last big release, on Dec. 11, 2007.
(As always when a big upgrade is installed, the first thing I recommend doing is clearing your browser's cache, to remove all old script and style files from your web browser. If you use more than one browser, the cache should be cleared on each one, since differ

PONDER THIS:
Our smallest actions may affect profoundly the whole lives of people who have nothing to do with us. Somerset Maugham

NC Merry Millionaire Raffle
OK I see, the smaller prizes. I wonder when they will release those. Did you notice that none of the $million numbers were lower than 100,000. How wierd is that? What did they do just pull from the last of the people who bought tickets.
I was like 078 something.
