13 State Employees to Share $224 Million Powerball Lottery Jackpot
Nobody wants to win over $100 million and take annuity. The record for the largest US jackpot paid as an annuity was just over $110 million, set in 1993, more than four years before the Powerball cash option began.

MM at 265M !!
One thing that is against Mega Millions is the size of their player base. Because they have so many more players that could potentially buy Mega Millions tickets is why they have a hard time getting to the record level. Plus they did not shoot themselves in the foot with a messed up backloaded annuity or a cap so that every one can share in the fun. They actually have a nice annuity to cash ratio. I wish that I had both games in my state got to have options.-weshar75

I predict Powerball will roll
With the way the Powerball jackpots have been rolling, it's very possible the next record annuity jackpot will hit between $365 and $390 million if Powerball keeps rolling, in which case there is no match 5 bonus pool but the cap increases. Of course, Powerball could also roll once more beyond that if that happens, in which case we may very well see the first $400 million annuity jackpot.

Powerball vs Mega Millions.
It's not a state issue. The largest prize ever given out is Euromillions with odds 100 million less than Megamillions but no annuity. The Big Game got really big with a much lower population. Powerball's big killer has been the cap. It most likely would have broken 400 already. It would also be interesting if a large scale game in the US would offer just cash prizes but annuity and bond lawfirms have far more clout in the US than in Europe.

Powerball vs Mega Millions.
Mega Millions simply has all the states that are so big, even Powerball's 30 jurisdictions can't compete with Mega's 12. It's Mega Millions' combined population of 156 million against Powerball's 96 million. The cash values are what they are, and Powerball's is lower simply because they don't have as big a player base to sell nearly as many tickets per drawing as Mega Millions can; the only effect Powerball's back loading of the annuity has is on the annuity itself; it does not "rob" the winner

Reach $300m in these current runs
Do you mean for this run? It will definitely break 400 eventually, and so will MM. It's just a question of when. They'll eventually break 500 too, and MM will probably get there well ahead of PB since the cap means it may have to reach record levels 6 times to pass 500. Including the current draw, PB needs to sell about 196 million more tickets to fund a $300 million dollar annuity, which would be about $140 million cash. Probability predicts about 1.3 winners for that many tickets. Inc

Powerball now behind on cash
Maybe when more players get smarter the MUSL will apply the cap to the cash value instead of the annuity. The games should be looked at as cash jackpot games, with the option of having the lotteries invest the winnings, instead of annuity jackpot games, with cash options. Unfortunately, us LP members are in the very small minority of lottery players, especially those of Powerball and Mega Millions, and many Powerball states do not even border Mega states, so players may not even care about the

go PB
How is Powerball cheating their players out of cash? Maybe they are when the jackpot hits the cap, but other than that, under Powerball's equal annuity payments system, the cash jackpot would still be the same; the annuity would just be smaller.

go PB
PB by the time it drawed last night was almost $3 million over the annuity they projected and yet they were $200 thousand below on the cash value estimate. I kind of feel like powerball is cheating the players out of cash. Dam them new rules and that backloaded annuity. I want a 50% or higher payout on the cash option. MUSL has Powerball players bent over the table.-weshar75

Jackpots a Jumping
Hell, at least the cash jackpot jumped at least $6 million this draw! It is sad that even though Powerball's annuity is bulked up more than Mega Millions', Mega Millions' annuity rollovers are still outpacing Powerball's. I guess the small 30 jurisdictions just can't compete with 12 of the biggest lotteries, especially California.
