Canadian Lotto 649 Jackpot Amounts!
I think the game is much better with the $2 price. Every big jackpot I've seen has been after the price increase. I think the $4 million starting pot is only an estimate as I haven't seen a guaranteed jackpot in a long time. As far as not seeing the sales, sales are higher now than at the old $2 million start. Just be thankfull that you get large tax-free jackpots in cash. 6/49 will most likely have a 30+ million pot this summer if 14.9 million goes unclaimed on June 7th in Alberta. Unlike

Lottery pool
I am not in Chicago area. I like the idea of lottery pool. When MM or PB is higher than 100 million, assuming each member will be satisfied if his/her share is more than 2 million, then 50 members play togeter will increase the chance for every member by 50 fold. Assuming each player play 10 bucks each draw, the odds of winning jackpot is 1 in 300,000 (win 2 million each), much better than 1 in 15,000,000 if one plays alone (win 100 million). The chance of wining match 5 will become 1 in

Lawsuit challenges N.C. Lottery
The voluntary nature of a lottery ticket purchase may not determine it's status, but saying something is effectively a tax doesn't make it a tax either. There are many ways to raise reveune and fill state coffers which are not taxes. The state of North Carolina can tax a lottery ticket. They can meet in Raleigh and vote to tax lottery tickets like they tax other products. They haven't done so. Governments these days are much more into fees. They don't like to be in the press for supporti

Newspaper analyzes Fla. Lottery education funding
I (as usual) agree with Todd. The author assumedly posseses some measure of college-level eduaction, but does not show evidence of critical thinking skills. Heck - some of the numbers quoted don't even add up. The article is full of unproven canards... and if you don't like the way the lottery performs, analyze lottery performance in a responsible way. I always cringe when critics fault the lottery for how dollars are distributed when the lottery has no say in how that is done. In CA

Setting a trust for anonymity: how does it work?
I didn't get onto this topic to give advice, but as I am typing, it probably will sound like it. The reason I don't want to give advice on Trusts is that I am not an expert on Trusts although I have taken course on them. Also, the first thing I would tell anyone is never plan your financial future by what someone tells you on an internet board. There is no fiduciary relationship here and whoever tells you what to do can be totally wrong without any fear of litigation. Regarding FDIC insure

Party leader wants to repeal Okla. Lottery
The people of Oklahoma are slow...I think Oklahoma's pick5 has better payouts than any pick5 in the USA...the 25K are taxed paid , the 4of 5 pays 500 dollars and the 3 of 5 pays 10 dollars and 2of 5 pays a free ticket (wish it could be of your own choice and not a quick pick, which i think it is) ...I just hope they keep it like that and do not increase the matrix...HOw can a lottery like that result in low revenue? i do not get it....I do not know i think it may be that OK has a small populat

Realities of winning the lottery
The odds of winning the record $370+ million Mega Millions jackpot is greater than 170 million to one. It's a big number and it's a hard number to put into perspective. If you play $1 each draw, it is expected that you will have to put up your $1 for 170 million drawings before it is statistically likely for your numbers to hit. But that's based on buying only one ticket at a time. Most people buy many tickets and a lot of people participate in lotto pools to increase their chances of

strike the lotto
Hate to have to puncture your balloon Todd, but when I first joined LP I signed the petition, because I do agree that lottery drawings should be televised and computer drawn. Since then, Wisconsin went from ball drawings to RNG faux draws on all state games. And they did it in the Dark of Night also. They only posted the change on their website after they did it. It's about money. What isn't? And they saved, according to the media, about $300,000 a year just on not having to televise

how would YOU change the payouts?
how would YOU change the payouts in pick 3? how about pick 4 or pick 5? maybe even in powerball or mega millions? I would like to see more money going to the lower tier prizes. For example, I got 4 out of 6 in FL Lotto after many years of playing and won $75. Big Deal! Even $500 would be much nicer. Same for Fantasy 5 - you finally get 4 numbers and win about $100. However, the goal is to win the jackpot, so I doubt if they'll ever change. The states want to make a big profit, s
