Random Observations & Things To Ponder
Thanks Coin Toss! You couldn't have said it better.
We cover all the bases every month, it's just there's no discretionary money left over so we can go out and have some fun! I miss the days way back when we used to be able to go on vacation, eat a a real nice steakhouse, and buy a new car every five or six years.
In 2009, I retired from a Fortune 500 after 32 years. In the last 5 or 6 years of my career, that corporation saw fit to give zero percent pay raises to their employee's. (If an

The morning after you win & your job
What I would do depends on which ticket wins. I buy my own tickets plus I operate pool with my coworkers.
If a ticket in the pool wins, of course I'll be going in to work. I'll have to split it with 13 people so whether or not we have enough to retire on all depends on how big the jackpot is. My boss is in her 60s and near retirement eligibility, so she could probably go right away, as is another member of the group. How we'd collect it would of course depend on the group. If they want to

Man threw away $153,000 lottery ticket
unless someone else noticed it in the trash and grabbed it!
Excuse me while I go into a psychic trance...
Ah, yes... A fellow mailman will soon retire and the ticket will be cashed in on the last day it's eligible.
I'm coming out of the trance now...
I make no judgement on the character of postal employees. I only relay what the universe gives me.
I must have a brief lie down now, these trances exhaust me.

Friend charged with hiding lottery winner's death
In my opinion, the majority of people who win the lottery, and say that they wish they never bought the winning ticket, are the same ones who think that they can go back to their old neighborhood or behave in a manner in which they believe money will buy them out.
For instance, after Shakespeare won the lottery, and purchased his house, he still went back to the old hang out spot. Now as everyone knows, that is not always a wise choice, especially if the old hang out is located in a depr

Mega Millions, Powerball lottery ticket cross-sales begins today
Sorry, Bagent--the only thing universal lotttery will do is keep out of state winners from having to pay taxes to both where they live AND where they bought the tkt.
The government and states are already WAYYYYYYY ahead of us poor wanna-be winners and have figured all the tax wrinkles--besides--why would you want to cheat any government out of their fair share for roads, health care, industry tax abatement for industry, fact finding missions to China--hmmmm--on the other hand maybe I better

Kansas Lottery is first in the world to offer electronic PushPlay
Dude......
Relax, have a beer, take a chill pill.
Ok, better now?
Ok. I imagine there might be someone on LP that is trying to rub salt in the government's eyes , but I think the vast majority of lottery players are just trying to win some $. Correct, we don't have to buy scratchers, or any other lottery ticket. Yes, it is a form of taxation that whoever buys a lottery ticket of ANY kind, is voluntarily paying a tax. Here in the US, at least in Tx, the money goes toward schools, educati

Unemployed: Play the lottery or not?
Since it's a big animation studio, roughly 80 people participate in the pool. Even if they win, they will still
have to keep their jobs because housing is mighty expensive in LA area and there are a lot of people to share the pie.
Let me see, about $1 mil cash after taxes. If I couldn't retire on 1 mil, I'd shoot myself.
because housing is mighty expensive in LA area
Now, let me see, move to a cheaper area?

Seriously, do you REALLY wanna go public?!
Very true. But if you won enough dough get a body guard. See, maybe you don't tell anybody, but there could be a crook working for the lottery commission that could do you in.
As for me? I will check into a high class hotel the night I win and live there until I cash my ticket in. You know where to find me. No, I will NOT tell anyone other than my sister, who will also be in the hotel suite with me. As for my brother? No, I would not tell him, he can't be trusted, he can out talk a radio.

POLL: When you check your tickets...
Ah, yes, if truth be told -- when I check my tickets and lose, I am guilty of sometimes saying, why do I play this game!
Now, my new playing stragegy for the 2009 New Year is this:
1. Since POWERBALL has the odds of a person winning as 1 in 146,107,962 and...
2. HOT LOTTO has the odds of a person winning as 1 in 10,939,383 - then my purchases are more toward HOT LOTTO with the Sizzler option.
I know my chances are slim with POWERBALL (and that is not to say I will never win), but wi
