Rockmart man claims $42 million Mega Millions lottery prize
A software engineer from Rockmart won $42 million this week after matching all six numbers in Tuesday night s Mega Millions lottery, lottery officials said. Rockmart is in Polk County west of Atlanta.
Mark Staffa, 33, discovered his win Wednesday morning while checking the Mega Millions Web site, Georgia Lottery officials said in a press release.
I couldn t stand up. I just sat there, Staffa said. My body went kind of

Drive to boost Calif. lottery sales under way
The billboard campaign is a farce - it will have no measurable impact.
This article is typical - it scrapes the surface but doesn't give a lot of the real fundamentals about this issue.
The teachers will not support anything that doesn't guarantee their union more money - period. If they even abstain (go neutral) the measure will not pass.
Ahhhhnuld doesn't have a clue either. He surrounds himself with people who tell him what he wants to hear. In the end, this thing will

Lottery winner facing tax fraud trial dies
Of course you can't completely trust your advisors either, I mean you can't just let them have free reign over your assets while you retire and don't have a hand in the managing of things to see where all the money is going, you need to take an active role and be the one who makes the real, final decisions with YOUR money, that's why they're advisors not partners you re supposed to listen to their advise and come up with a decision which should be done after doing your own research, not just bli

Who really need money?
Pardon me for getting back to a reply to the OP's statement. (Wow, did this thread ever go off on some tangents!)
One might look at it this way, money might be more useful to young people but it is entirely possible that when old people win big jackpots there are actually more young people who benefit. It has been my observation that when older people win, they often make comments about sharing their winnings with their adult children and grandchildren. How often, by contrast, do we hear abou

Most lottery players never see big payoff
While it is true that putting $1 a week in the bank won't help you to retire, saying that deducting part of your income every week in a savings plan at work or an IRA (both use pre-tax dollars) and averaging 5% over 30 years is the same as playing the lottery is absurd. I can't even think of a word for saying the lottery is a better way of investing your money than saving for retirement. By law, a company can't tell you where to put your money. They need to offer you choices (think 3 is the mi

Avid S.C. lottery player wins $1,000,025
A South Carolina man is a millionaire after buying a $10 scratch-off lottery ticket in Rock Hill.
Ervin Ratterree Junior of Catawba says he plays the lottery daily and has won quite a few times. But on Wednesday the 52-year-old won his biggest prize $1 million. I was shocked, Ratterree told the (Rock Hill) Herald. That's a dream come true.
Ratterree purchased the winning Cash Bonanza Riches instant ticket from the Lesslie Food Shop. Four $1 million top prizes are still out there, sai

Buying Commercial Properties with Lottery Prize
I kept thinking about buying stocks and mutual funds if I win. But I changed my mind. I would invest in mutual funds, including income funds. But commercial properties are more lucrative investment than funds if you have enough properties. Think about the incomes coming from the rent paid by tenants! If you own a big indoor swapmeet you can net six-figure income every month. Condos, apartment complex, malls and so on. If you win enough amount of money, say 30 millions net, then you won't have t

POLL: 'Moral' obligation for a jackpot winner
no one has a moral obligation to do anything whatsoever to make life easier for another.
I think it's more of a way that some people try to justify their own views on what they would do if they won a jackpot. Some people might have the idea that if they say they will quit their job people may view them negatively so they justify it by saying they are or would do it for all these moral reasons......
heck with that if they wanna quit their job so they can just play I say fine let them.....
