Odds on Misinformation
nickbrownsfan,
Thanks for the offer, but you missed my point.
My point is that each and every play is equally a probable winner, and placing numbers into arbitrary subsets has no impact on the odds.
Here's an example. The numbers you would select 4-16-27-32-36 = 115. If we take all the plays that would add up to 115 we could call them a subset; an arbitrary subset that we defined, which has no impact on the odds. But we could also say you are less likely to win with this subset than wit

New England states start new lottery game Thursday
Media...let me share some light on the cash now mentality. You made great points on the taxes and inflation now and taxes down the road issues....Here's some more food for thought....At 35% tax rate as of right now ??....my taxes are all done, finished without any chance of increase at all over then next 29 years. The only tax I pay is on the interest I make in the future on the multi millions in my current possession that I have invested.
I can buy my houses, cars, vacation homes, land, gold

Buying More Tickets Does Not Increase Your Odds.
THE SHOTGUN PLAYING METHOD.
HITTING THE TARGET.
when a shotgun is fired all those pellets that are crammed into the cartridge spread out so it's easier to hit the target.
Yes you can increase your chances of winning by buying more tickets, but every single ticket will go against the Odds of the particular game.
Thrifty is right, each individual ticket (one line of numbers) is up against the very same odds, 175,000,000 to one.

Buying More Tickets Does Not Increase Your Odds.
The probability of hitting the winning combination does increase (albeit ever so slightly) if you buy more than one ticket
Maybe a smaller scale example should help people understand?
There's a jar of 25 marbles (marbles here shall represent the number of combinations in the lotto), each numbered 1-25. Your objective is to guess which one number marble will be picked out of the 25 (like hitting the right combination). If you wager for one number (like buying one ticket), your odds of getti

Weak Powerball Sales?
I'm sorry you're finding it so hard to understand, but the discussion is about sales. Notice that the subject heading says Weak Powerball Sales? then reread the exchange that you replied to:
TheRightPrice said, Whoever came up with this $2.00 Price increase is not very smart
And Ruud replied, Is this a joke? Sales are up. Instead of, for example, selling a 1,000,000 at $1, they are selling 600,000 tickets at $2.
Since raising the price they've been selling about $30 million worht of t

Weak Powerball Sales?
You can't just make numbers up.
Powerball sales in Texas last calendar year were $140m. You mean to tell me that 25% of sales came from one $60m jackpot. Impossible.
The latest roll from $50-$60m generates $1.9m in sales. In 2011, similar rolls had sales of $1.2m, $1.3m, $1.2m and $1.3m. Average sales of $1.25m to $1.9m is a 50% increase in sales.
The margin on a draw game like Powerball is about 50%. 50% of $1.9m is greater than 50% of $1.2m. Losing customers and selling less tick

Lottery jackpots may get bigger
Yeah, it would be nice to have more information on this, kind of iffy that the guy never went public about it. Hmm. Not very helpful to make that claim then.
Then we agree to disagree, faber98. I, personally, don't see a huge difference in chance. As for the numbers, the person clicking the button did not choose those numbers mentally. He clicked a button on a computer that spat numbers out to him. The credit would go to the computer if you had to give something money. If the machine itself

Lottery jackpots may get bigger
I'm wondering about these bigger jackpots that may go up to 500+ million or to even a billion.
People have said multiple times that this may not happen, but I'm wondering if the boost from a 20 million to a 40 million starting number will promote larger jackpots by lessening the amount of draws it takes to get to those higher jackpots. As someone said, someone giving the lottery a chance may be more attracted to the 40 million prize versus the starting prize of 12 million in MM, despite the
