Financial analyst looks at lottery jackpot cash/annuity options
Jack,I think ChazzMatt's point was that if the winner chose the annuity option, they may do better than the person who blows a large amount of his/her winnings, because they will have more of their initial money remaining for investment purposes.Hence, in the real world of people winning and spending, perhaps the person choosing annuity does in fact come out ahead.

PB annuity
Two Powerball winners took the annuity this year, but one only did by default because he waited too long to claim his prize. Also, there probably wouldn't have been any annuity takers if Powerball didn't get hit so many times this year.

Connecticut likely to stick with Powerball
I agree. These journalists who write these articles have no idea what they are talking about. They really need to educate themselves about cash vs. annuity. When you take the cash you are getting every cent the lottery commission starts out with if the annuity is chosen minus the taxes. When will these journalists ever learn?

Connecticut likely to stick with Powerball
With the so-called backloaded annuity, you would have to be insane not to take the cash. Who would want to be in bed with this gang of con artists for 30 years? A 30 year annuity with unequal payments is way too long and just reeks of chicanery to falsely elevate the advertised jackpot.

$45 million N.Y. Lotto winner living life to the fullest
To me it sounds like he confused an annuity with lucky for life. Doesn't sound like he's socking enough away for his post-check retirement . Ironically if he had chosen cash then stuck the cash in a perpetual annuity he could stand a better chance of living this kind of lifestyle.

Who Would Make The Best LD?
Sorry Guys. I had to vote for me. I think if I ran the lottery is would be a good one... Everyone would be happy.... Also, Todd, Jimmy, Mike, and Doctor EW would be good. If it was up to CO there would be no win for life or any annuity what so ever. Some people do like annuity so some people would be upset.

Jackpots
What do you think? Annuity jackpots are good because it gets more players thinking that the jackpot is bigger than it really is, so they buy on impulse, which gets the jackpots moving faster. On the other hand, seriously, who takes the annuity anymore anyways?

Connecticut Gov. considers dumping Powerball
Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell thinks Powerball, the multi-state lottery game that offers huge potential payoffs, is about to become a lousy bet.The agency that runs the game announced the odds of winning will be a lot higher starting next month, and winners who opt for multi-year payouts will wait longer for the big money.Rell asked state officials to review the new lottery rules and decide if it is still a good deal for Connecticut lottery players. If we don't approve of the rules, in essen

cash vs. annuity
The only problem we have with picking the annuity is that the annuity company works for the state of CA--if CA ever has budget problems, then they issue an IOU warrant which can't be cashed at a bank...it is worthless...what happens if you need the money? Also, the overhead for the state is very high...about 17%...I can invest better than the state can. They buy zero coupon bonds which pay a low amount of interest...

Megamillions at 88 million
The reason why the annuity jackpot estimate it not increasing as fast as before is because the current market value of government securities required to fund the annual installments is decreasing. This means it takes more cash today to fund a $10 million annuity jackpot than it did a year or two ago. But if you track the cash value of the jackpots, I think the addition of California has had a impact. But after the jackpot crosses $100 million, I think California will have an even greater impact.
