Pick 4 is manageable from Pool size perspective. The ratio is 3/10 : 4/10 assuming distinct digits per draw set.

Using birthday numbers can mean that you are using the pool of 365 combinations out of millions of available ( in big lotteries). There are only 365 dates in a year, and , OK, some 100 years within which your family members could be born, wed, dead, etc. So, 465 combinations. Too narrow. Try to spread it around a lot instead. Then again, if public is convinced to avoid using dates, then you can try to swim inside this limited pool and win. :)

Thank you for the clarification on this. I could still be framing this idea all wrong but this is still pointing to a given amount of game history? For example when I try to figure out how many games of history to use in Mega Millions I divide the number of numbers picked in the first pool which is 5 digits by the largest number found in the first pool which is 75.
