Tennessee Lottery refuses to revert to ball drawings
Guys, you'll not do any good at all writing to the Lottery Commission. NOTHING scares a politician more, than letters from upset voters. So, scare the crap out of a politician! :) Sen. Jason Mumpower is one of the wheels on the over-sight committee. Vent your frustrations to him. mumpower@legislature.state.tn.us Use words like loss of revenue , Coverup fraud , etc. Go for it. Pete

New York Lottery won't pay $25,000 for taped-up scratch-off ticket
I believe the lady's story. She bought the tickets from a machine and the tickets came out torn. She honestly believed the torn tickets were two parts of a winning ticket, thus she taped the two halves together. It was a foreseeable honest mistake on her part. Perhaps mistakes like this have happened in the past. The machine may be defective and the lottery operators knew it, and yet they didn't do anything to correct the defect. I would argue that it is gross negligence, to say

Some States Consider Leasing Their Lotteries
I see an Enron style theft in the future if they are privatized. What if a Michael Milken runs one of these lotterys? I wasn't arguing or disagreeing with you, Mike. I only wrote my last comment because you mentioned Enron and Milken in the same sentence and he had nothing to do with the Enron scandal. Kenneth Lay Jeffrey Skilling were crooks who committed fraud and destroyed lives by lying to shareholders. Although I personally believe Milken was a pawn in one of Giuliani's political

Tennessee Lottery players unanimous in their discontent with drawings
Stack my point is the state is in business to make money the lottery generates money for the state and the lottery has failed in it attempt to generate more cash by using software instead of balls for their drawings. If the people in Tennessee or any other state want them to switch back to ball drawings then they have to take their case to the office which has accountability for the moneys they distribute. In Tennessee's case it's the comptrollers office. If someone convinces the boss in that de

Spanish police have arrested 43 Africans on suspicion of running a fraud ring in which people were duped into paying money as a handling charge to collect fake lottery winnings. (Editor's note: See http://www.usamega.com/lottery-scams.asp for a description of this type of lottery scam.) Authorities estimate the men 42 Nigerians and one Senegalese bilked people out of more than 2 million (US$2.6 million) altogether. They were arrested Tuesday in Seville, and another five Nigerians were

convicted felons and lottery winnings
However, as long as prisons are funded by taxes and until criminals begin paying for their own room and board, I don't think they should be allowed to purchase tickets while incarcerated. rcallahan - If you are referring to my post, then you read it too quickly. I do that too, and it's very common for a person to take bits and pieces from each comment and respond to all of them. However, if you go back and read exactly what I said, I never suggested that a criminal should pay for his/her ow

Lottery winners: beware the phone
Many of these callers will be known by the winners or will be legitimate organizations, yet others will be strangers or scammers trying to conjure a plan to get a piece of the winner's nearly $1 million - the amount expected to be doled out to each person after taxes. The net amount keeps changing. What was the cash value? I can't seem to find it in any article. If I recall it was around $95M. So the near $1 million reported above can't be right. Even a 50% payout after fed state tax
