Millionares!
Quote: Originally posted by golotto on August 04, 2003 update:The article stated that after taxes the person will collect about $67,000. This amount seems quite high. I suspect that more taxes will be owed later.Actually that figure seems low. I thought lotteries withhold 25% federal, and then based on how much income you have will determine if you owe more (possibly up to an additional 13%). For $100,000 PB win, I'd think they'd get $75,000 from the lottery.

Gift Tax
What's this deal about the gift tax? I read in a CNN article from a while back that after you win, if you want to give $1 million in cash to someone that you lose some money in gift taxes. If the lottery has taken money from you in taxes before you received the prize, then why should you be taxed again?

$500 million jackpot...when?
Hmmmmm Article in paper today : Both sides eye a future without Davis. Possible cure for Gov Gray Davis' recall headache. Resign. Quit. Clear out your desk. Quitting now would bring the rcall effort to a screeching halt and derail Republicana' plans to hijack the governor's for Darrell Isa, Arnold Schwarzenegger,or somebody else with a more conservative bent.I say get him out. Put someone in that will give us powerball!!!!!!

What I learned from playing powerball
According to the Powerball website, 70% of winners use quick pick, but that's because 70% of players use quick pick. If I change any of my own numbers, it would be minor changes to a couple numbers while sticking with the other three that haven't been picked in a long time. The other winner from Pennsylvania has not yet come forward, but according to a news article from BigGameLottery.com, the Pennsylvania lottery is asking that the winner sign his/her ticket, call a certified financial planner,

ND to join Hot Lotto
Well CASH will be happy to read this. If you read the article about ND's lottery starting the 1st Quarter of 2004, there is a link to the ND state website that has the proposed rules for the lottery.Within that document are the rules for Powerball, Hot Lotto, and Wild Card 2 (another MUSL game). Since ND can ONLY sell multi-state lottery games, it's no big surprise that they will be joining 3 of the 4 MUSL games. So unless DC joins soon or some other MUSL state, it looks like ND will be the 7th

The PB winner has not yet filed a claim. Although I later saw the AP article where it said the winning ticket was bought just north of Pittsburgh.

I never claimed that this man made a living off playing the lottery. He's a city manager, he doesn't need to! The article did state he won $70,000 net last year. I could live on that quite nicely, thank you.

Anthony Monica Wilson won $48 million, he spent 60 bucks. But of course stories like this are rare. The article you gave me said nothing about him making a living playing the lottery.
