Balancing Odds and Cost 😁
Last summer I was in Texas for vacation, I bought a 15 draw Texas Lotto ticket, the jackpot was in the 30M range. I did not win the jackpot . But you are right, at $1 a draw even with the odds it feels ok. Where I live the state doesn't tax the lottery, so a 1M win would be 630K, which is a very decent win. I add the extra $1 for the power play to make it 1,260,000 after taxes, now that sounds very good Good luck on your upcoming draws and Happy Birthday in advance.

Ohio man has the "best day of his life" after winning the lottery twice in one day
He visited the Lottery to claim his prize and took home $219,750 after federal and state taxes. With those winnings, he said he plans on paying off his parents' car and buying a brand-new car for himself. He'll put the rest into his savings. Congratulations on the win. May you and your parents enjoy the new and paid off cars I love my parents so much, but if I won 200K they won't hear or see anything about it but if it's in the millions, I would chip in here and there

US Powerball multi-state lottery game expanding to the UK
Why? Because you don't like it? You're perfectly fine with billionaires getting away without paying taxes while reaping all the benefits but a no-no with someone paying 7% less while not receiving any benefits? This kind of thinking is exactly why we're so behind in terms of progress. We're happy to keep paying over and over for every little thing.

Impact of "Free Money" on Lottery Spending
I think it's worse than just gasoline. Higher diesel prices affect the cost of everything you buy. Unlike food (for everyone) and housing (if you rent, and there's property taxes if you own), much of America's gasoline consumption is optional. Biking and public transportation (which I use) use none, and small cars use less than big cars. When I was a kid in the 80's, everyone drove small cars and no one whined about it. Yesterday I bought four Millionaire for Life tickets. Rather than 4

The Florida Millionaire Raffle is back!
Wishing you luck on the draw. The $20 price is steep for me, lol, but given the $1M prize and the 1:100,000 odds, I think it's a risk worth taking. I would have taken that risk if I was in Florida. $630,000 after taxes is a decent win.

Heads up for users of the PA lottery mobile app.
They now require you to be a member in their VIP club (where they can identify you) to use the stupid ticket checker in the app... don't bother, they are probably trying to track down people who do not pay taxes on the small hits (or is everyone reporting that $2.00 win on a $5 scratch off?) or some other such nefarious nonsense. Maybe they are just gathering data on play habits, but it is a shady move regardless. I can wait to hit the kiosk which has no such login requirement. Now it doesn'

you win the jackpot. how far away are you moving?
If I was to go there, I would do 3 to 4 month rentals. That way I don't have to spend a fortune paying for utilities, taxes, maybe a caretaker as well. Then I can go to different islands every winter I wonder if I won I would do that. Sometimes I feel what one plans before the actual win changes like 95% after the win.

Mega Millions and Powerball Race
Sure, it's a lot of money, but the odds and the ticket cost make it a lousy bet even by lottery standards. Tomorrow a $5 ticket will get you chance at $438 million (or, more realistically, the $111 to $128 million after paying income tax on the cash), but for only $2 you can have about the same chance at $190 million (about $49 to 56 million after taxes on the cash). It's only about 44% as much money, but the chance at it only costs 40% as much and it's still more than you have now and enough to

29 co-workers split $1 million Powerball lottery prize in New York
Congratulations on the win. Yes, I know after both federal and NY taxes the take home will be at a minimum $17,965 for each of the winners, but, 17K is a nice boost. The saying goes Half a loaf is better than none
