MM Cash Value Exceeds Powerball
The Mega Millions cash value is now at $43 million, while Powerball's is at $41 million - and they both started at $10 million on the same draw cycle. Yet, Powerball still takes the top prize because of its longer annuity period (30 PB vs. 26 MM payments).Mega Millions would do well to extend their annuity period to 30 years, since they have now proved they have the horsepower to roll faster than Powerball. When the next (final?) big state signs on to Mega Millions, they're going to be a far ahe

Lump sum Vs Annuity
starchild:DO NOT choose annuity, regardless of your age. Take the lump sum, AND THEN consider using PART of your winnings to SHOP AROUND for an annuity.Besides, if there (currently) is no STATE income tax, it's ANOTHER reason to take the cash-in case Washington state dventually taxes lottery winnings.

Some input requested ... PLEASE
That's probably the worst option, because you lose money by selling an annuity to someone. If you're going to do that, save yourself some money and take the cash option up front. You're not going to avoid taxes by selling an annuity to someone else.

Some input requested ... PLEASE
I've noticed that one of the more interesting questions seems to be Annuity vs. Cash.I have an interesting question. What about taking annuity over cash option THEN selling those payments to a doctor, lawyer or some company like J.G. Wentworth?Timmer

Mass. Lottery games to merge, jackpots to increase
tg:The new game IMO should have a different matrix than the games it replaces so that everyone filling out betslips for the current games is aware of the new game.Mass doesn't need a super jackpot game; if they want a bigger in-state game, create a 6/50 with no bonus ball, lengthen the annuity to 30 payments WITH A LONG-OVERDUE CASH OPTION, keep the $3,000 and $100 prizes in the current 6/49, but make 3-of-6 pay $5.Otherwise, make the new game 6/43, with the same prizes as the 6/42

Time to change Mega Millions
i don't think it's an issue of cash or annuity for most players. mega just has smaller prizes. anyway i think federal law states players have 60 days to change their minds on the cash/annuity thing.

One Ticket Won $88 Million SuperLotto Plus Jackpot
Since CA requires the choice to be made at time of purchase (winner cannot reverse the selection), the CA Lottery should have known by the time the computer went through all the tickets sold to determine whether cash or annuity was selected.Given that the winner will be in the top tax bracket regardless, and CA does not tax lottery winnings, it would have been especially foolish if annuity was chosen.

Grand Plans for $2.5 Million Lotto Winner
Smart People seems like there are plenty of players out there that believe in taking Annuity payments.I don't believe that's what they meant because it's quite obvious they could retire with a Lump Sum they probably like the idea of having a yearly check that way they can structure how they want to use the money and know that plenty more are coming for the next 25 yrs. With the lump sum they might be more tempted to do things with the money they don't really need to like get carried away with

N.Y. Lottery Director To Head Georgia Games
Maybe that explains why the NY Lottery often does not listen to its players (38%-40% prize return in Lotto; cash/annuity choice still must be made when you play; several high-end scratch games annuity-only, which IMO is a form of corruption.)I actually met her in 1999, soon after she became Lottery Director, at a press conference outside a store, when I still was delivering Lottery New$.

Lottery winner files $6.3 million complaint against stockbroker
weshar:I would seriously think it out BEFORE taking the annuity. If you live where the choice must be made when you buy the ticket (e.g. CA, NY, TX) you should choose CASH, so that you still have control of your money if you win, and THEN consider the annuity.
