Lottery winner files $6.3 million complaint against stockbroker
In this case, she would be millions of dollars richer right now. As it stands, the money has been thrown down the drain.IMHO, this a one of those cases where it may make sense for the person to choose annuity. Although a much wiser money manager could do better than annuity rates, she doesn't seem like the type to trust with that much cash.

I would never take the annuity either. In fact I almost never play NY Lotto 6/59 anymore because the prize return (NOT cash value of the annuity) is still only 40%. This explains why matching 3-of-6 pays only $1.

One quick pick !?!?!?!
There is no way they are taking the annuity. But looking at the pictures it looks like they are all well in their 50's. If they take annuity they will have to live to be atleast 80 to get all the payments. I'm sure they are taking the cash option.

New Jersey woman claims $12 million Mega Millions jackpot
Quote: Originally posted by CASH Only on October 21, 2003 I doubt it, Pick-4. I'd rather pick my nose than choose annuity. I think you're taking this a bit too far. I would much rather take the annuity than pick your nose.

should megamillions change the rules
The only reason to change the matrix is if the play handle at the lower jackpots covers more than 60% of the spread. Currently that is not the case, and will not be the case even when Texas begins selling near the end of October. However, it will be the case once another state (hellooooooooooo TN). When that happens, look for an increase in the pick-5 section, not the mega ball. Also, don't be fooled, dvdiva, the reason that PB jackpots seem to rise faster is that they pay out on a 30 year annu

Taxes and fees
1. welcome to a high tax bracket if you win - 35%+ (50%+ if u have state income tax as bad as ca or ny)- make sure to get a good tax lawyer.2. you can sell the annuity also - there are groups that buy them so if you choose an annuity you can always cash it out later.

Texas couple claims $49 million prize
Lump sum or annuity,,,,you got to give the guy his props...he had a gut feeling and he begged his wife to take it...no data,no sum,no analyzing,,just pure gut feeling....and you can get every investment guru to tell him he's wrong about annuity, but i'll bet he'll just smile at you and say whatever..

Putting the millions in the bank... how?
You could always take a portion lump sum and take a portion in an annuity. You can buy that multi-million dollar house with the lump sum and pay your taxes and expenses each year with the annuity.

Cash VS Annuity IV
Actually, The Hollywood, FL couple who claimed half of that $80 million Florida Lotto jackpot chose annuity. Ironically, one of the rare times someone claimed a large jackpot prize for annuity in Florida was on Cash Only's birthday.

FLORIDA $75 million!
I would think Florida Lotto winners are LEAST likely to choose annuity, for the following reasons:1) FL's elderly population;2) players choose AFTER they win;3) annuity is 30 annual payments.
