Update on Pledge of Allegiance
Gee, I wonder what I would do if He told me to choose annuity? (PS-I don't tithe...if I did, then He presumably would tell me lump sum anyway.) If He told me to choose annuity, would I still listen to Him?

NY Payout Cap
Mink: I don't play pick-3/4. My beefs with with the NY Lottery are:terrible (38-40%) prize return in NY Lotto 59Mega Millions (within NY)/Lotto 59 players still must make the cash/annuity choice when they PLAY, instead of after they winseveral scratch-off games are annuity-only (NO cash option).

If the $51 million PB ticket expires...
I would say... let's add the $51 million to the $38 million current pot and let the next jackpot winner(s) only take ANNUITY option just like those lovely Mass 6/42 or 6/49 games.Choose Annuity Folks!

How much do you spend on lotteries?
I usually spend $20 a week but if the pot gets high, greater than $50M, I'll add another ten or so.ROJ makes a great point! Think lottery as an entertainment. Don't spend if you can't afford to. As far as picking natural or QP, it's all up to you. The odds are still the same. Some people have a lot more fun picking their own selections. As far as lump sum or annuity, CHOOSE ANNUITY, it always makes sense!

The Ultimate Cash vs. Annuity Poll
CASHIf I win Mass 6/49 or 6/42 annuity, I will seel it to a company which will give me cash and take the annuity. There are some companies that do this

Remain anonymous with a trust
Tom: Not surprisingly, both winners opted for CASH. However, the Ohio 6/49 cash option is ONLY 44% of the annuity, vs ~58% (currently) for Powerball, even though both jackpots (if annuity is taken) are paid in 30 equal yearly payments. This is one instance where Andy might be correct.

For Andy (AnnuityisGreat)
David1,I'm not clear what you're asking. Are you asking why one would purchase an annuity rather than investing it in a tax free bond or a CD? I need to know your long term goals. How old are you? What interest are you getting on the CDs, etc. before I can choose one or the other.I'm in favor of taking the annuity option from the beginning. If the pot is over $100M, that's a whole lot even for one single year.

A Message to Annuity & Cash
JustOnce: Unfortunately the high-end NY scratch games are all ANNUITY-ONLY (the games with prizes over $500,000). IMHO it is WRONG for the NY Lottery to force such winners to be stuck with annuity payments. We all have our opinions; I don't try to force my opinions on other don't want opinions forced on me.
