Financial analyst looks at lottery jackpot cash/annuity options
But if you win the jackpot in a state where you can be anonymous, such as Delaware, Ohio (with the help of a trust), New Hampshire (Formation of a Trust is needed), or Louisiana (also with the help of a trust), you wouldn't need to worry what family or friends think because they wouldn't know anyway. You would only do what YOU think is best, because society at large couldn't target you for something that no one knows that you have.

$15.2 Million Powerball Prize
Sorry, you're right, New Zealand.Anyone can remain anonymous, in any lottery game. It just requires planning with a good lawyer, rather than rushing to the lottery headquarters, breathlessly claiming your prize. Calmness is your friend when you win big.

$20 million lottery winner murdered
another example to remain anonymous and to collect the winnings in a method that limits peoples access to your funds. it does happen to the best people and sometimes by thos you may trust. money has a way of changing points of view.

Lotter Winner Dead
It's likely his sister-in-law (one of the accused murderers) would have known about his wealth even if he had remain anonymous to the general public, after all he won in Illinois and moved to Florida. He couldn't avoid his greedy in-laws.

Lotter Winner Dead
greedy, greedy, greedy..what good did it do to kill him? And they still didn't get any money.. Totally senseless act. They are in the right state..Florida uses their death penalty regularly..this is the reason why lottery winners should be able to remain anonymous regardless of how much money they win.

Can you "claim prize in trust" anywhere?
In Maryland you can remain anonymous, and you can form a Trust and collect your winnings that way. Depending on the amount and my mental state at the time of my winning, I could go either way. I will not become a public figure though! That I am 100% certain of.
