California divides the prize money derived from sales into 8 different buckets representing the 8 non-jackpot prize levels. The only difference between PB and an in-state draw game is that someone else (MUSL) draws the winning numbers, someone else (MUSL) collects the jackpot contribution of 68 cents per ticket, and someone else (MUSL) pays the jackpot. The Powerball jackpot was won in the April 29 draw with two winning tickets. There was only a 3.5% estimated chance the jackpot would be won.
