Online lotteries in Brazil
Wow, out of the blue I received a tip this evening from someone who wished to remain anonymous. It turns out that World Games Inc. is in fact an illegal pyramid scheme, and is not even registered in Norway as they fraudulently claim on their Web site. Here's the actual letter:

^^^You are not that anonymous now. I mean with the internet anyone can become a target. All you have to do is type in a name in google and alot of stuff might come up and people can use that info to do whatever they want...If you became a multi-millionaire you can protect yourself more...than just some Joe-Blow in anytown america.MP

Lottery Winners Remaining Anonymous.
I think tey should be allowed to remain anonymous to an extent, such as what most states do currently. They offer the winner the option to decline a press conference, which some winners take, but their information (name, city, etc.) becomes public domain.

Maryland Lotto jackpot winner has yet to claim prize
This cracks me up as far as I know Maryland lottery officials and the local news didn't even televise that they had a winner even though it had been some time since a Lotto jackpot was won. Lottery personnel didn't post the press release until June 1 probably because it was a holiday weekend. of course it could be that the ticket was purchased by a traveler or the person or people who won are contemplating different ways of remaining anonymous.

buying tickets online?
Quote: Originally posted by CalifDude on June 24, 2004In California the law is that the person that purchased the ticket is the one that gets the prize or yearly payment. This came up a few months ago when the person that won a big prize in California wanted to remain anonymous (which is also not possible in California). Actually, unless the ticket is stolen or signed, it's the person HOLDING the ticket because winning lottery tickets are considered bearer documents.

$10 million versus $145 million
Quote: Originally posted by golotto on June 22, 2004I couldn't agree more. I've always felt that all lottery prizes should be tax free as they are in UK and also jackpot recipients should be given the option of remaining anonymous as they do in UK. The states and lotteries already have their profits from ticket sales and the prizes (including jackpots) should be awarded without any additional state or federal tax burden. The states may have profits from ticket sales, but the US government doesn
