Why do you play the lottery?
By excluding the smaller odds and payout games it becomes exactly what Coin Toss said A dollar and a dream no matter how many different reasons there is to play. I suppose the people that hardly ever play, do play for the same the same reason most people play; to have the chance of winning a multi-million dollar jackpot and the fact that people do win justifies playing.
My point with winning a few thousand in the much smaller odds games like pick-3 and pick-4 is actually knowing how it feels

Why do you play the lottery?
I'm not sure I get your point. This wasn't about small jackpots (pick 3/4) vs. large jackpots (MM/PB). This was about why people play the large jackpot games. I wanted to see why others played the lottery and if their reasoning was like mines. So I guess if I were looking for a conclusion , I guess that would be it. That others DO play the lottery for the same reasons that I do.
You hear of people who hardly ever play the lottery and they end up winning a huge jackpot and then say they want

Why do you play the lottery?
But I really enjoy the what if part though. As soon as I buy my ticket, it starts. What if this is the winning ticket?
I think most pick-3 and 4 players not only enjoy the what if part but have actually experienced the cashing a winning ticket part and the next time they buy a ticket they know it's a real possibility. Multi-million dollar jackpot games that could provide financial security have been around for over 20 years and most of those players have never experienced cashing the winnin

Surprise $1,000,000 in your Bank Account
My answer: I would immediately notify the bank, then the Feds. Even if it's their mistake you can be held liable and go to prison. In no way should you spend it, as tempting as it might be. The money came from somewhere and it will be noticed during an audit. Wasn't there a story on the news not long ago about a woman who was getting large direct deposits and spent the money? Years later she was caught and prosecuted. Can anyone find this story?
I'm not sure if this is a poll about honesty or

Gambling
This poll may be good for the Tulane student to see the results on.
By lousy gambler I mean.
You learned your lesson on wagering too much when you were not that great at picking numbers.
Now that you are better at picking numbers you get cold feet and do not want to wager that much.

Payback For Winners
congrats
You were brave starting this poll. I started one like this asking if someone who received government assistance because they didn't want to work should or should not repay after a big win.
Apparently it touched a lot of raw nerves of those on government assistance.
With a 100 million win, there would be no way they would miss the pay back.

Millionaire lottery winner goes back to job at McDonald's
KyMystikal, you stated that money can't buy happiness. Since you did not take a poll of all Americans or all the people in the world, your generalization is not valid.
What is happiness to one person -- may not be happiness to another person. Of course, good health is usually considered by most people to be worth more than any amount of money. However, we know of individuals who can afford the best of health care that money can buy...the medical teams would be salivating and with blushing ch

Tithes
I would give 10%...yes God does give us the power to get wealth and He also can bless us with long life to enjoy that wealth. Get greedy and try to horde that 10% to yourself...I would hate to be that person. BTW it doesn't require a person being religious to believe in giving...of course, I doubt an atheist would give any bit of 10% to any church but there are wealthy atheist who do give to some type of charitable cause. Thankfully for them, God gave us all the freedom to choose the path we wan

If you won powerball or megamillion
So far I am the only one to say I would give any to church on the poll...I do believe in sharing, but not in the way many people would. Openly sharing any jackpot win would likely lead to problems. Plus, from what I know about government expeditures, no amount of millions can solve any of the worlds problems (i.e. you'll go broke trying). So I would first give 10 percent to God (even though most church pastors don't advocate playing the lottery...that is their problem...I don't want any problems
