Ornery dog leads to $1M lottery win
I think it more likely that each time a person join the pool they were allowed to bring a new line of numbers to the set .... that way the amount for each person to pay would never change, but the tickets being played would continue to increase. I thought every lottery/lotto format started with a model which was then extrapulated into this astranomical odds, so the reverse is also true, one need to scale down for laser targeting. Just take any lottery/lotto , look at the range of drawn numbers for a month, it could

Do some number combinations have better odds?
This is exactly what I'm playing, only I use eliminations to reduce the playing pool to 12 numbers.
