NJ bill aims to protect lottery winners' identity
For some lottery winners, a large jackpot can bring out scam artists and others looking to get a piece of the pie.
Some winners have even been kidnapped and killed.
Now, a New Jersey assemblyman hopes to reduce the chances of that happening through legislation that would keep winners out of the public eye.
Winning the lottery can be a blessing and a curse, said Assemblyman Deputy Speaker John Burzichelli.
Once their identities become public, winners can become targets for unscrupul

Poor man's "Blind Trust" or LLC.
Maybe in MI they only report the clubs name, but I posed a similar question to the FL lottery commission...
If I won the FL lottery, and wished to include family via filing a 5754, is the 5754 part of the public record (thus available to anyone who asks for it)?
I got what I think was a form letter response...
Thank you for writing the Florida Lottery. Occasionally we do have requests such as the one you are inquiring about, and gladly I will answer. Anyone who may win an outstanding am

New Jersey Lottery proposes rules regulating courier services to allow them to operate
My experience as a foreigner living outside USA..
My courier service allows me to buy tickets in overseas lotteries. I play worldwide over the Internet
Some services buy your ticket (your order) and scan it (to prove that they bought it :)). Some (My service) just seem to add the lines I buy to their total order.
If your ticket wins anything, they claim the prize (but your account is credited immediately.. It may take time to actually get the cash for larger wins).
The courier p

Accusations of "disturbing" new claims procedures after Allwyn sends investigator to winner's home
Viceroy2,
Good guestions. I assume any state lottery in an anonymous state would still have to verify the identity of the winner. So there is no urgent need to try a trust, llc as with a non anonymous state.
But I personally would still ask for the money to be transferred into your trust or llc to create an extra level of protection. You do not want your bank to suddenly see $100 million in your account since someone will figure it out and branch banks have a lot of busybodies. Maybe put

what is the very first thing you would buy if you won the lottery?
2 things would decide what I would do first when I win the lottery.
If I could remain anonymous.
The amount of money I actually brought home.
If everything went perfectly then I would.....

Court rejects Colorado man's claim to full $4.8M lottery jackpot he unwittingly split with scammers
There wasn't a legitimate winner
Can you show us where anybody in the lottery said the ticket that Shaw tried to validate was illegitimate? I can show you where Terry Rich said, The jackpot from the rigged 2010 draw was ultimately not claimed and distributed among the sixteen states participating in the lottery .
Instead of creating terrible straw man arguments, you really ought to do some research. On November 9, 2011, three months AFTER Dawson won, Philip Johnston to claim a ticket tha

GOP bill would keep Wisconsin lottery winners secret
Two Republican lawmakers are introducing a bill that would allow lottery winners in Wisconsin to remain anonymous.
Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and Rep. Gary Tauchen announced the bill Tuesday, about 40 minutes after Manuel Franco of West Allis appeared a Madison news conference to reveal he had won a $768 million Powerball jackpot, the third largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history.
Current state law doesn't allow lottery winners to remain anonymous. Tauchen said in a news release announcing

Winner of $1.5 billion Mega Millions jackpot has come forward
Based on your definition and if they really waited while getting their ducks in a row, they should have claimed no later than January 2.
I didn't say anything that should have made you think they should have claimed by 1/2, and specifically said that winning more can be expected to require more planning than winning a fairly modest amount. Starting to earn investment income means that would have been an ideal date if they had everything in order, but (as I've already said) none of us have a
