I see lottery pools being a hassle too, but if you do go into one isn't it smart and common sense to draw up a contract an all members sign it? It won't be airtight if a lawyer didn't draft it but should be clear enough to keep issues from happening. On an episode winners had a pool. They were all coworkers.
