West Virginia resisting trend to privatize Lottery
About a dozen states are flirting with the idea of selling their lotteries to private companies to help plug financial gaps in their budgets.
But West Virginia officials say they so far have not seriously considered such an initiative, which would privatize the state lottery in exchange for quick cash.
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, for instance, wants to sell the Golden State's lottery to bring in as much as $37 billion. Under Schwarzenegger's plan, the state lottery would be leas

Successful lottery winners don't change too much
Eleven years after hitting a $1 million jackpot in the New York Lottery's 7-11-21 game, Agnes Jackman got some free advice on how to handle her winnings.
In a 1991 Money magazine cover story titled Midway Through a Million, financial planner Gary Schatsky suggested investing in money market funds, certificates of deposit and U.S. government bonds. He also told Jackman to stop spending money on lottery tickets.
She rejected his guidance.
And now, seven years after cashing her last inst

Winning a lottery jackpot can't guarantee happiness
Sudden wealth is good for most lottery winners, but not all
For some people, winning the big jackpot can turn out to be a big mistake.
William Bud Post III called it the lottery of death.
The Pennsylvania man, who died in January at 66, hit a $16.2 million lottery jackpot in 1988. After that, his sixth wife left him, a woman sued for a third of the winnings, he failed at business ventures with siblings, and spent time in jail for firing a gun over a bill collector's head.

Passailaigue was not hired on a contract and will receive no buyout.
