Retailers luckier than expected, Atlantic Lotto says
It is very important (IMO) to check your numbers yourself rather than just have a machine say whether or not it's a winner.... and read all of the fine print on the rules at your state lottery site. djklaugh, most stores where I've been in FL have a display that shows the amount won, but it depends on howthe terminal is set up. Most players I stand behind simply don't pay any attention, so it would be very easy for someone to say Nope, not a winner. Recently I went into a Publix super

I have a question
Thanks Todd...I was waiting for you to respond. Not sure, if the system for raffles works the same way from state to state as Ontario does. I will refer to our old Winner Take All nightly raffle game with a guaranteed winner in Ontario that ended last year. First the lottery terminal generates the ticket selection then it is stored as an ENTRY number (not as the numbers on the ticket). Now the control number/bar code number in Ontario is actually attached to an entry number ie. 34859.

I have a question
Well, there are a few answers to that question. First, your question seems to assume some kind of linkage between a lottery machine and the numbers that are drawn -- as if the lottery machine either controls or knows what lottery balls will fall out of the tumbler that night. So let's just say that on the face of it I do not think the question itself is grounded in reality. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the question, as a lot of people ask that kind of thing, but I think it's i

Do You Buy Lottery Tickets Right After The Drawing?
Why would it be impossible to buy tickets for the next draw 2 seconds after the previous drawing? Just last week I decided to make a late bet and the machine only printed half the tickets. I found out why when the clerk tried to run the rest of the tickets; they were for the next day's Midday draw because the ticket sales stopped before all the tickets were printed. I was shut out. The clerk said I wondered why the screen was blinking and said sales were closed after she handed me the extra

% of Lottery Players That Make a Profit
Thanks WSN1! Justxploring I also think many people (including me) will treat a winning ticket like coins in a slot machine. You know how people get excited when the quarters come flying out and they plug them back in, hoping to win more? Doesn't it make you wonder when someone puts $1.25 in quarters or $5 in dollars in a video poker machine, gets a pair of jacks, and shouts, I won! I won! - as they get credited exactly what they just put in.

Does $9 goof point to larger problems with Ontario Lottery?
Coin Toss, You are right. I stand corrected. My response was about scratch tickets and then I added a general recommendation to combate retailer fraud. A lot of the recently reported retailer fraud concerned non-scratch purchases. Buying online would not help prevent scratch ticket fraud. There is the option of providing scratch tickets online but then the terminal or computer would resemble a slot machine or videa lottery terminal.

28 most common questions about Powerball
I really like the Question and Answer: HOW COME THE ONLY JACKPOT WINNERS ARE FROM THE [EAST - WEST - NORTH - SOUTH - CITIES - RURAL AREAS]? HOW COME ONLY [WHITE, BLACK, TALL, SKINNY, YOUNG, OLD] PEOPLE WIN? Powerball is a random game that knows nothing about who buys a ticket or where the ticket was purchased. There really is no white/black/old/young/rich/poor, etc.] button on the machine. If one draws a box around some group of players (eg., state border, hair color, shoe size), then th

Fixed Lotteries
Coin, Actually what happened was the paper and pencil crowd that was tracking the numbers started playing the number that wasn't there because, hey, it's due, you know! And then they assumed somebody from the Lottery Commission pocketed those balls thus rigging the game so they couldn't win. I played the Ohio Pick-3 when it began in 1979 and hit the second draw, straight and boxed, by playing the 3 digits number off my license plate (647). That s when I learned to ask the clerk

Ball-Drawn Raffles
Many of us on this forum are strictly opposed to computerized drawings. The new lottery raffle games are being computer selected. This makes me wonder: Should these raffles be drawn with balls instead of computer selected? A possible way to do it (using Pennsylvania as an example): PA's first raffle sold 500,000 tickets (since increased to 625,000, but bear with me). The tickets were numbered from 00000001 (1) to 00500000 (500,000). To run this as a ball drawn lottery, instead of ticket 500,0
