Dropping cash values?
Whoah, what's going on here? I've been watching cash values for over a year now (CASH ONLY is the way to go!) and I've noticed a sudden drop in the cash values based on the advertised annuity value for both Powerball and Megamillions during this past few sets of drawings (ie: since the last time someone won).Megamillions is currently $50m annuity and $28m cash. That's a cash value of 56% of what's advertised. But the last time it was $50m the cash value was $32m! Which puts it at 64%. Megamilli

Not the Lone Ranger!
Annuity-is-great-- for the States , [ AIGFTS for short]You know what, AIGFTS... being the conspiracy theorist that I am, I think you are lobbying and working for all those lottery States that do not want winners choosing the CASH-LUMP SUM option. Why? In order to persuade us sophisticated (and not so sophisticated) lotto players to choose the Annuity option when we win so you guys can make money off the money we agree to take in installments . Heck, for each annual installment you literally

Jackpot Game Survey
1) On an average, how much do you spend weekly on Jackpot Games?Right now roughly $4 a week($2 for each MM drawing). When I travel home every month to see my family I throw a couple $ down for PB there too.2) Do you still play when the Jackpot is set at minimum of $10Mil?Oh yeah. But if the state lotto is bigger I'll play that until MM catches up and surpasses the state's jackpot.3) Quick-Pick or Natural Pick?Quick pick. I used to do a couple of my own picks(birth dates and stuff), but eh...

FINALLY THE ROCK HAS COME BACK TO LOTTERY POST!!!!!!!!!!
hey rock-o-matic, did your finacial advisor mention to you the tax liability implications that you (actually your heirs) would incur upon your eventual death. the annuity is taxed at an incredible rate (the full amount remaining in your purchased annuity if i am not mistaken) upon your death at the transfer of your estate. that is one of the biggest reasons people choose the cash option. with cash option you get your money up front and then you can decide thru good advice what you want to do wit

THE ROCK HAS BEEN TALKING TO HIS FINANCIAL ADVISOR FOR HIS COMING FORTUNE FROM MEGA MILLIONS AND HIS FINANCIAL ADVISOR HAS ADVISED HIM THAT IF HIS WIN IS A VERY, VERY SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT LIKE THE $500+MILLIONS THAT THE ROCK IS ABOUT TO WIN THAT HE SHOULD TAKE THE ANNUITY. HE SUGGESTED THIS BECAUSE TAX RATES IS LIKELY TO COME DOWN AND SO THAT THE ROCK CAN GET USED TO HAVING SUCH WEALTH. HE ALSO SUGGESTED IT BECAUSE THE ROCK WILL BE ABLE TO PLAY

The 10 Best Bang-for-the-buck North American lotteries.
1. Tri-State Megabucks: Maine Vermont are incapable of offering large jackpots since neither _small_ state has Powerball/Mega Millions. 2. Massachusetts Megabucks; 3. Mass Millions. Both games remain ANNUITY-ONLY. 4. New York Lotto: Prize pool ONLY 40% of sales. 5. Pennsylvania Super-6: Two-thirds of games played are automatically quick-picked. Thank goodness PA joins Powerball this month. 6. Ohio 6/49 Lotto: Cash value ONLY 44% of annuity. 7. Ohio Kicker: If you avoid Ohio Lotto, then you don

Ohio Lottery Players
Patrick,I agree on all counts. There are some state lotteries that are just plain obvious about their desire for larger profits and hurt the lump-sum option. For those who weren't aware of it, the way it's supposed to work is if you choose the lump-sum cash option, you should get the exact same amount of money that the lottery would normally invest in order to pay off the annuity payments. This usually comes to about half of the total annuity payout. But some states will actually give you less t

Mega Millions and Powerball Race
I don't look at the worksheets enough to notice usually but they increased the annuity and the estimated sales but the cash is still listed the same as before at $498. Any idea why? I don't know for a fact what management thinks, but the worksheet still shows the estimated, and advertised, and the cash value is the cash (prize) that would be needed to buy the annuity if the annuity was being bought. That it also shows the expected sales and he annuity that could be bought with all the cash

Virginia Mega Millions $348 million lottery winner plans to buy lawnmower with record prize
they had or have a game where the prize stipulates taxes paid and you actually get the advertised amount. I remember seeing something about a game that did that, but it was a long time ago. If such a game exists now I haven't seen anything about it. I wish I'd checked (or remembered if I did check) to see if it really was a set amount after taxes, because the taxes could vary quite a bit depending on a winner's taxable income. Even if the prize was only 10k, that would add $3700 in federal
