One advantage of playing only for yourself and not in a pool is if you drop playing for awhile you will never know if you won or lost. Now this person here may need to go to a therapist to be treated for lottery pool dropout trauma now that he knows he could have been a winner.

Agreed! Joining a pool seems like a losing idea no matter how anyone puts it...There is no significant increase in the chances and nothing but trouble over hadling of money or other issues. I always made sure to make it perfectly clear I was NOT in any pool at work because I didn't want lawsuits if one of my personal lottery tickets hit! Not so fast their partner. Because powerball has a match 5 rule for when they reach record jackpots and that is set at $390 million for the next time it is high. They spread the wealth to other match 5 players instead of increasing the jackpot.
