Snowstorms hurt Massachusetts Lottery sales
Lottery ticket sales dipped in December by nearly $1 million below last year s total a drop Lottery officials attribute to two snowstorms that kept buyers out of stores.
During the Dec. 17 storm, Lottery agents lost out on rush hour sales when many commuters spent hours in their cars driving home, Beth Bresnahan, assistant executive director of marketing and communications, said during a Lottery Commission meeting Tuesday.

N.C. farmer wins record lottery jackpot
It's also his second time winning a Cash 5 jackpot
A farmer from Zebulon, North Carolina, won more than $1.1 million in the Carolina Cash 5 jackpot on Sunday the largest amount ever won by a single ticket in that game.
It was the second time that Homer Buffaloe has hit the Cash 5 jackpot. In November 2010, he claimed half a jackpot worth $408,066.

Georgia Lottery president/CEO announces retirement
Georgia Lottery Corp. President and CEO Margaret R. DeFrancisco announced publicly today that she will be retiring from her full-time position as head of the Lottery.
The Georgia Lottery's board of directors will conduct a search for DeFrancisco's replacement. She plans to stay through the transition, and a departure date is not imminent or immediate.

Why can't the US be like other countries and not tax lottery winners?
Amazing stuff there are people? here that believe we should pay taxes on money that was wagered by other people? Maryland Lottery achieves 13th straight year of record sales
Despite a challenging economy and two paralyzing snow stormsthat buried large parts of the state, the Maryland Lottery tallied more than $1.706 billion in sales in Fiscal Year 2010, breaking its sales record for the 13th year in a row.
The Maryland Lottery also contributed $509.7 million to the state, which is used to support important programs, including education, public safety and health and environmental programs.
