Wyoming lottery bill barely nixed
On a split vote, the Wyoming House narrowly defeated legislation allowing residents to play the Powerball lottery. The vote was 29-29, two votes shy of passage, with two representatives excused. Nothing in this bill talks about the addiction, said Rep. Rodney Pete Anderson, R-Pine Bluffs, who led the opposition. It preys upon those who are on the fringe. ... Instead of buying things the family needs, they're buying lottery tickets. They're buying a lot of false hope. He also argued that state

Dispute erupts over use of Tennessee lottery funds
Tennessee State Sen. Steve Cohen Thursday attacked Gov. Phil Bredesens pre-kindergarten initiative, saying the use of lottery money to fund the program is illegal and unconstitutional.Cohen (D-Memphis), the chief legislative architect of the state lottery, accused the administration of bringing intentionally low lottery projections to the legislature in 2003 numbers that ultimately led to the substantial surplus now available, he said.Bredesen called Cohens remarks astonishing. The lottery was de

Mass. lottery winner, 94, sues to get lump-sum payment
All other state lotteries pay in cash or offer a lump-sum option on their jackpot games. (Of course, OR, PA, and WA have a lifetime prize in their online games, and Mass/NY have annuity-only scratch-off games. The legislation that Bill Clinton signed in 1998 allowing winners to choose cash or annuity after winning did not go far enough; it should have forced lotteries to offer a cash option on ANY prize (other than lifetime prizes) paid through an annuity.

Warning about Lottery Universe
As well as the Trading Standards Office, I also sent an email to the Avon and Somerset police (Fraud division). Unfortunately, their hands are tied as there is no legislation covering this type of activity but they have said that they will be pushing the Trading Standards Office to do something about it.I also have one more avenue that I am exploring but I'll tell you about that later when I see what the results are.

Mass. Lottery to replace Mass Millions with new game
Dr.,I am also for a flat-tax. Studies have proven that it would lower taxes for 90% of the folks, while keeping or expanding current tax revenues.A big-win for everyone except those who escape taxes through massive loopholes - and most of those people are the ones who vote on the legislation. (Which is why it has a slim chance of passing.)

Georgia to sell tickets online
I don't think it will pass either - too much politics involved. Regardless of location, a lot of times one part of the legislature will pass things knowing the second part will kill it. That way they keep proponents happy by passing it in one place and keep the opponents (like the convenience store owners in this case) happy by killing it and not making it law. Good ole politics in motion.I do think it's an interesting groundwork for future legislation thoughout the country and other states

Governor among first to kick off Tennessee lottery
It may have been the first day of Tennessee's lottery and the first time Gov. Phil Bredesen had ever bought a lottery ticket, but he knew exactly which one he wanted when he walked into a market Tuesday. Tennessee Treasures, he said as he pulled out $2 for the clerk. I like the name. Bredesen, wearing a yellow-and-purple lottery button reading Education Wins, wasn't disappointed when he didn't win a prize on his first ticket - or any of several follow-up tries - because the proceeds go towar
