If I reduce the MM or PB number pool by half and play 3o2e/3e2o...(?)
I took advanced mathematics in college. I'm pretty versed on the subject of probablity.
Go back and look at how you started this thread. You asked a question about probability that had a simple answer that you didn't know and couldn't figure out on your own.Simple probability allows us to very easily and precisely calculate the odds, but you asked what we thought the odds would be. Somebody who can't do such basic calculations on probability is not pretty versed in probability, regardle

Pennsylvania Is Lowering Payouts
The new batch of games coming 3/27 have lower payouts than what was previously offered. Now, $2 tickets pay out 60%, which is down from 64%. $3 tickets are down to 62%, as opposed to 65% from before. And $5 tickets have been lowered to 68% from 70%. You will also notice free tickets on $2, $3, and $5 games, perhaps even $10 and $20 tickets, from now on. I did e-mail the Lottery about this disturbing event. They probably won't do anything about it, but at least they know how I feel. I recommend y

Random Numbers Predictable?
And during this time, like my ear would get so jittery (sort of ed) and i would i heard stuff i shouldn't hear and saw things i shouldn't see (nothing bad, but detrimental to me)....And i would ask myself what are the odds .....A movie that resembles what i experience was the movie the Event Horizon , where people will experience things so detrimental that they will go crazy....And i did went crazy...And like 2 months later after i checked in into the psychiatric evaluation (i was evaluated b

Quik Pic observations from a new LP member...
That is what was CLAIMED. If any truth exists to it, one would have seriously doubt QPs. My experience has not born this sort of thing out, and the fact that the March 6 MM draw only produced 2 winning duplicates NATIONWIDE bears this out. To be fair, like 40+ tickets nationwide matched 5 WBs, but that was statistically in line with expectations given the million per minute cliprate being purchased in some locales!
Actually, Guru, if I understand the algorythyms, the previous players DO

The vastness of the odds for a jackpot win...
I think what makes most folks go on is this: They think a random draw event can be predicted by analyzing past draws, to see hot and cold and overdue numbers.
I can't speak for everyone else, but I play because 1.) I have the means, 2.) disposable income that doesn't impact my quality of life in the least; 3.) somebody always wins, and my belief is, one day it will be my turn to step up to the winners circle.
welcome to LP!

Doubt Quick Picks?
Well, if they would investigate a winner for a fortune cookie try, as opposed to a QP, it seems to show worry over the integrity of the draw and their employees. One could as easily win, in theory, by a preselected set as by a QP. They have no proof of cheating, and it is pretty hard to cheat at a random event governed by independent trials unless the draw was rigged and the purchasers knew it was for a particular drawing, with inside help being needed, of course. It is either sore losership by

I can't Beleive this!
On A GIVEN DRAWING, the chance of a triple Pick 3 is one in 100. The chance of a triple that drawing and the next is one in 10,000 (100x100). DIVIDE that by the number of drawings you are considering. In a year with 700 drawings the odds are 7/100 (700/10000) or just over 1 in 20 there is such an event during a given year of drawings. So expect it again roughly 5 presidential terms from now in that particular State, but with all the other States' drawings considered it should happen much sooner.

Probabilty of Someone Winning a PB & MM Jackpot in the same Week!
One of the things I think we all agree on is that the terminology can get confusing. Odds are just one way of describing your chances, just like quarts is one way of describing how many pints you have. The odds are the same as chances at the same time that they aren't. For pick 3 the odds are 1 to 999, and the chances of winning are 1 in 1000. You have 1 quart of milk, and I have 2 pints. Different numbers telling the same story.
Using your pick-4 example with odds of 1 in 10,000 (those ar

Man with terminal illness wins 20-year annuity lottery jackpot
This is one time where I would support Cash Only in the pursuit of a clause that would permit a cash payout (am assuming average annuity cash payout is around 30% which is far greater then the 10% a buy-out would pay) for annuity only games.
Perhaps if the clause read something to the extent of In the event that the collective medical opinion of (xx number) State Board Certified Medical Doctors who specialize in the terminal illness of the Lottery Winner is such that the Lottery Winner coul
