Oregon lottery kept my $1500 winning ticket
I heard this for 2026 Starting January 1, 2026, the federal jackpot tax reporting threshold increases from $1,200 to $2,000 I assume this applies since the huff n puff I have played in casinos is a video slot machine. So should not be reported via W-2G. I guess it's up to you on whether you report the earned income. It might be an interesting poll if the $500 Pick 3 Winners report as income. I would expect most people if they itemize deductions would show a gambling loss for the yea

Annuity or Cash Value
What would be a reasonable cut off age where one says, heck no, am taking cash I don't think that whether or not you expect to live long enough to collect all of the payments is a good reason for making the choice between cash and annuity. Being older, within reason, could argue in favor of the annuity. If you're under 50 or 60 there are probably a lot more reasons you might want to spend a disproportionate amount of the jackpot in the first few years. If you're 70 and the cash value is $10

US Powerball multi-state lottery game expanding to the UK
Yes and I pointed out that it is the system under which the jackpot is generated is what they were benefiting from so they should pay the whole 37% because if it weren't for the system there would be no jackpot. Everyone has to come up with some sort of loophole as to why they shouldn't have to pay what everyone else does. Everyone gets a break when nobody gets a break. The code either should get rid of the carve outs and reduce the rate to one single low bracket or just get rid

US Powerball multi-state lottery game expanding to the UK
https://www.irs.gov/publications/p519#en_US_2025_publink1000222351 Gambling Winnings In general, nonresident aliens are subject to the 30% tax on the gross proceeds from gambling won in the United States if that income is not effectively connected with a U.S. trade or business and is not exempted by treaty. (can sometime be hit with state taxes) apparently UK (also Germany) have tax treaties with USA that exempt gambling (aka lottery) winnings...

you win the jackpot. how far away are you moving?
Looks like someone stole my story of a false relative claim. Not buying it. An alleged relative would have no claim to a life insurance payout unless they were named as a beneficiary so a DNA test would never be needed. It would be a moot issue. So all that would be needed would be to tell the person to go to you know where. And one cannot look up life insurance paperwork and claims. Life insurance information is private and restricted by law to you, your beneficiaries, and your legal repres

Money and the Crime of Kidnaping
I am glad that the state where I live allows for winners to claim anonymously. Having said that, I must add that how flashy one chooses to live after the win does increase the likelihood of opportunist bringing harm on them. Being able to fly under the radar with millions in the bank account is a delicate balance. If I had 250 million in the bank after taxes, it would take a lot of will power and energy to act/live normal. I believe there is a certain level of comfort in knowing

would you play a multi country lottery?
Yes I would under the following conditions. 1. Keep the ticket cost at $2 2. Remove the annuity nonsense and only have cash value 3. Like most countries in Europe - give zero $$$ to Uncle Sam as taxes. Mmh, I see a 5 Billion jackpot, unless they have the must win when it gets to a certain amount and the money distributed across second or third and fourth etc, like they do in some countries

Florida's Fantasy 5
Took a look at Jackpot Winners and Retailers Information Report for FF5 on The Florida Lottery's website this morning because I haven't looked at it since I dunno when. Midday drawing jackpots are all over the place in terms of prizes won, but lately, if you hit a jackpot by yourself in The Evening Draw, you could win approximately $110,000. If you are the lone winner of a midday draw, then you'll win less than half of $110,000. Then of course The Lottery is going to withhold income taxes f
