Powerball Jackpot Jumps to $24 Million
What sort of surprises me is that yes the rollovers are bigger which can only mean more sales are being produced, but at the same time when the jackpots get up to the $200 million and it is won, as of late the jackpot has been won by one person. It seems as of late that both Mega Millions and Powerball last few large jackpots (over $200 million) have only sold one winning ticket. If more people are playing then wouldn't logic and probability suggest that there would be multiple winners on a larg

Probability of a rollover in PB and MM
The powerball jackpot has rolled over on 5/1/04 and has now risen to $205 million annuity dollars from 170 milliion annuity dollars. The cash value has increased from $90.4 million to $107.3 million. This implies the lottery is expecting about $51.7 million in sales. The probability of the jackpot rolling over again is 65.1%. The probability it will have one winner is 27.9%, two winners, 6%, of three winners, 0.9% and of four winners, 0.09% and five winners 0.1%. Sometimes jackpots this si

Number Systems and statistics.

All member states are part of a single lottery network. The central computer makes all of the decisions regarding winners and where they are sold. The software is programmed to make the necessary calculations, etc., and then sends out the quick picks accordingly. I believe the system can be programmed to send out a specified number of wi

MegaMillions season tickets
For the past year, the average expected value of Mega Millions was 33% (expressed another way, each $1 ticket was valued at $0.33). If you buy a seasons ticket at the discounted price of $90, the expected value goes up to 38%.On the other hand, if you only buy tickets when the jackpot is large, you get a much higher expected value. For example, for $100 million jackpots, the expected value is usually just over 50%. For $150 million jackpots, the expected value is ususally over 60%. The expected

Super 7
The reason the jackpot is at $30 million even though it was won last week is because it is a bonus jackpot. With Canadian lotteries, unclaimed money is used to fund bonus jackpots, unlike many other jurisdictions that keep unclaimed money.Because it is a bonus jackpot, the jackpot will rise to only $32.5 million if it is not won on Friday. This always causes a lot of questions. Why does it go up only $2.5 million when it went up $5 million the previous draw. The answer is only bonus jackpots are

Poll - Do you play lotto on Sunday?
I play pretty much every day where there are jackpots over $20 million. I live at the border of PA and NJ and can pick Powerball or Megamillion. Right now NJ has a 27.5 million jackpot but that's rare.PA used to have large jackpots, with Super 6 and Key ball but have replaced their game with the nearly useless Match 6 which I never play. In general PA games are the least appealing to me since all recent ones involve state generated quick picked numbers through which one must sort. I'd rather
