Winning Powerball lottery ticket worth $310 million sold in Michigan
I too am anxious about the new matrix 'building faster jackpots'. Seems like MUSL said this before; only difference I saw was it started @ $40 million and doubled in price. Still I play and go on with life.
Well written article Todd. Thank you for not being like the media early this morning 'The winner(s) still have not come forward'. Hello, the lottery headquarters (Lansing?) isn't even open @ that hour. Drives me nuts when they say that.

Illinois State Lottery Report Card !!
Right on the lower tier.... But I thought the jackpot wouldn't be affected... That too will not be paid out either even though the MUSL makes the payment.
the article mentioned something about voucher payments to the state by the MUSL and then the state comptroller can't pay...

Excellent Money Advice
Interesting article, CDT!
Although the guy calls the lottery a curse and says if he won again he would give it all away -- he hasn't given it all away. Although he is a generous giver to charities, it sounds like he keeps enough to live on quite comfortably.

The Biggest Mistake that Lottery Players Make (I SEE this!)
I saw an article about that once. Basically, people were buying old tickets for a fraction of their retail value and trying to use them to reduce their taxes, but it sent up red flags with the IRS.
I've thought about keeping old lottery tickets and tracking them in a spreadsheet in case I ever win enough to have to pay taxes, but that hasn't happened yet. I wonder if I'd have to include lower tier prizes if I were to try to do this.

Helping Former Lottery Winners
Thanks, I've had that in my files along w/ loads of other links and information; I thought I might write an article for my blog about the pitfalls of being a lottery winner. From my research, I've determined that the #1 danger is not from con artists bilking you out of your winnings or family members murdering you for your money, but from yourself and poor choices. Ms. Adams wouldn't even be the poster child for that spot, however - Jack Whittaker or David Lee Edwards would beat her out for the

Ohio Lottery to conduct review of operations
in the article it says.....One part of the document states that models of interest to be studied by the consultant include the lottery systems in Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts and New Jersey all of which have privatized their lotteries.
I do not believe Mass has privatized, it is still State run

Kentucky Lottery and legislature tussle over cash reserves
Numbers sometimes go against the lottery, Gleason said, using the Pick 3 game as an example.
Because this is the only thing in the article I'd comment on. Gleason and his staff are very lottery savvy and understand how KY lottery players wager. I'm betting the reserve is based on the number of multiple wagers on the same numbers in one drawing. The Illinois fiasco is different because it's not based on possible prize winnings, but actual winning that weren't paid because of budget debates.

N.C. legislators look to expand lottery
One think I have noticed about the Across the pond lotteries, they will actually ENSURE that prizes get awarded to the winners. Todd posted an article not long ago where the winner was tacked down (via a players card) and awarded the prize before it expired. In my eyes, this is lottery honesty at it's best and that in itself would earn my trust to play.
I like the suggestion, but lotteries here are all about how much cash they can pull in now and too bad so sad if you are past the claim pe

NJ Lottery officials still investigating cause of massive outage
According to the article, about 200 retailers called on Saturday, which was not an unusual number, (which I would believe considering how many retailers there are selling lottery tickets). At that time they had no reason to suspect anything really wrong. When they received 500 calls on Sunday was when they realized there was a real problem.
I imagine they will learn from this, as the old saying goes, hindsight is 20-20 .
