$600 MILLION: Biggest Powerball jackpot ever
Closing in on all-time lottery record By Todd Northrop Only once before has the United States or the world witnessed a lottery-buying frenzy like we are seeing this week. That was in March, 2012, when the multi-state Mega Millions game was busy setting a record for the largest jackpot in world history. This time it's Powerball's turn to make people stop what they're doing and line up for lottery tickets. Powerball tickets are being bought at such a rapid pace that the Multi-State

$356 MILLION: Mega Millions lottery jackpot nears record
Biggest cash value jackpot in history By Todd Northrop After rolling over for the 17th consecutive time last night, the Mega Millions jackpot has been raised to a jaw-dropping $356 million for the Tuesday, March 27, drawing. Tuesday's Grand Prize is the 5th-largest lottery jackpot of all time, but the drawing's most impressive distinction is it's cash value of $255.1 million. That's the lump-sum cash amount the winning ticket will payout if the winner chooses to receive the prize all at

Kansas Powerball lottery winner claims jackpot anonymously
The Powerball Annuity payout was changed last year to a graduated annuity payout - with each year's payment going up by 4%. If you had a lump of cash and wanted to set up your future, any financial advisor worth their salt would recommended a graduated annuity. Tough to live on even $1 million a year if it never keeps up with inflation. Lottery payouts that are equal really are not meeting the needs of a winner that wants to sit on the beach and not think about the money. The graduated annui

Powerball reaches $643 million: highest lottery jackpot of 2025
The annual increases in the annuity payment makes the proportion of lump sum to annuity smaller. Right, but you're reversing the cause and the effect. The graduated payments inflate the annuity, making it bigger than it would be with fixed payments. The flip side to that is that with fixed payments the proportion of annuity to lump sum is smaller. Every dollar in the prize pool (the cause) buys less annuity value (the effect). Of course, the lump sum is the real number since it's based

Man claims $16M Florida Lotto prize
There's no question that it would be nice if you had the option of taking some cash upfront while setting some aside as an annuity, but that's not an option anywhere. I think it's an IRS issue, though if you can choose cash or annuity I don't see a logical reason why you couldn't choose some cash and the rest as annuity. Regardless of how some people view the Florida game, there's only one jackpot, so you only get the one choice for cash or annuity. The payout for the lottery is exactly the same

Next "Huge" jackpot??
This is the correct information from what I read off of the Powerball website. The current Powerball record is $365 million annuity set in 2006. Therefore you can only increase the next record run by an increment of $25 million annuity as stated in the match 5 bonus prize pool rules. So the next jackpot would be $390 million annuity and if that jackpot is not won it will only increase to $415 million annuity. The rest would go into a match 5 bonus prize pool to be distributed to the 5+0 winn

Annuity Strikes Again
No it's because we live in America where you have FREEDOM of CHOICE and they CHOSE ANNUITY and CHOSE WISELY in my opinion. When I WIN I'm choosing ANNUITY and I'll post it here for everyone. When someone choosesAnnuity it doesn't mean they made a bad decision we don't know what the circumstances are for there choosing Annuity.Anyone can argue there point for a CASH option and do the same for an ANNUITY option it all boils down to the preference or circumstances for what a WINNER decides to take.So

To FYI:
The 30-year annuity in Ohio vs the 26-year annuity for MM is _NOT_ the big reason why the percentage of the cash value of the annuity is smaller for Ohio Lotto than for MM. The Ohio Lottery uses two different interest rates to compute the cash value of the advertised annuity. The last time I checked, the interest rate for computing the cash value of the annuity is 1.5 points lower than the interest rate of the cash value PAID to winners taking the lump sum. This means that the cash value paid to

$940 MILLION: Mega Millions lottery jackpot ready to make another billionaire
Do you really think they revised their sales estimate to sell about about another $4 million worth of tickets and it's just a wild coincidence that the new annuity factor resulted in an annuity amount that's exactly what they advertised from the start? The same thing has happened several times recently. They make a sales forecast, advertise a cash value and an annuity based on the cash value and annuity factor, and then a bit later they post a different annuity factor with a new cash value t

$600 MILLION: Mega Millions jackpot soars after no winner Friday
It's the cash value that the lottery starts with, and then it calculates the annuity based on prevailing interest rates. I know how it works. That's why I commented about a cash value increase of about $7 million being reported as a $30 million increase in the advertised value. I think most of the other people here know it, too, but the advertised annuity value is what we see most from the lotteries, and I hear there's also a well know website that uses it more than the cash value, titling
