Dozens of 'dead people' collected NJ lottery prizes last year
Carole Hedinger, executive director of the state lottery, responded to the audit noting that the 680 suspicious Social Security numbers represents a very small portion of all claims, and the auditor was unable to substantiate whether these 680 'questionable' Social Security numbers were indeed fraudulent. Apparently it's not that prevalent in NJ.

NJ lottery winners still receiving welfare, food stamps, audit says
The audit also found 37 people from December 2013 to May 2014 who had collected food stamp benefits even after their death was reported to the Social Security Administration. I Hope they don't mean dead people are collecting food stamps, but wouldn't surprise me because dead people vote in every election. If they have the means to catch them, what's the problem?

Audit: Stores buying Michigan lottery tickets from players
Lottery retailers cash tickets for the lottery and any unreported winnings (under $600) is included with all the tickets. The audit is implying every ticket cashed belongs to the store and the owners are taxed on that amount. And none of casinos required ID to cash out my chips. Where did you see that most casinos require ID?

"Peeking" is scanning unsold cards to determine winners
http://www.necn.com/news/business/Massachusetts-Lottery-Audit-Finds-Problem-Areas-280961412.html The odds of winning are already terrible and with this peeking practice on, I don't think players have any shot at winning at all.

Equal chance ...... that's right BA. You know. People should listen to this guy. I do think that all of the States have audit controls however......for their protection and perception too.

Kansas: 3/1 - 3/31/2014
The 32 day run is odd, but taking data from the entire year and basing it on the 10% average per trial for the year. The short term is lower than expected at 22/267 for 9's, (8.23%), but well within normal variance range (I should take more trials, but YTD seems to work well here). What's funny is until March 9's were hitting 12.4% or way above. My guess the computer will tape out at 8% which would take us on April 2nd. After all it has to come out for the audit as normal number distribution and

TAX... lower tier prizes
I used to think you were one of the smarter people here. If I've won a million dollars and not been audited my experince with winning doesn't really tell me anything about the IRS's feelings on the matter, except that they didn't feel aneed to audit me. If you won a couple of grand and reported no income because of your losses, the fact that you assume you did things correctly just because you weren't audited remains a simple assumption. Do you have any experience with reading the IRS rules?

Furlough Government Shutdown and the Lottery
A couple of coworkers and I were talking about this the other day. The only thing we could think of (remotely) was that if you were being audited by the IRS (relative to your winnings), then the audit might be delayed. And if you buy your tickets during these crazy times in crazy DC, I would look over my surroundings at all times! Even the weather is crazy here. 90 degreees yesterday--a record.

Need some losing Ohio Lottery tickets from 2011
In 2 weeks returns for 2012 will be due, and this person is asking about tickets for 2011. I'd guess they've already been notified of an audit. In that case, what happens will depend on how much they think somebody is trying to evade, how sure they are, and whether or not the person is smart enough to accept a reasonable settlement offer. If it was only about the cost and how much they can recover the government would never prosecute people for shoplifting something that costs $50. The threat of

if you hit the pic 4
You must be talking about winning over $5000 when the lottery must deduct 25% in Federal taxes and it might trigger an IRS audit. For winnings $5000 and under, just take the ticket to a cashing agent, fill out the form, they'll give you a W-2G and the cash. One of the reasons many states don't allow anonymity for large jackpot winners is because of their open public record laws. The states that do allow anonymity still check the winners for back taxes, student loans, warrants, child support,
