Russian retiree wins country's biggest lottery jackpot ever
Some U.S. lottery official out there is probably thinking rubles, pesos, yen, etc is another way to make jackpots look deceptively bigger. Mega Millions 6.3 billion rubles; Powerball 8 billion rubles. Seems like so much more. Extend out the annuity from 30 years to 40 years and it gets even bigger yet.
$8.5 million USD, even if it's an annuity and less taxes (article doesn't say), is still a great win. Hope it all works out for them.

Biggest was $2 Million last year. For this one, I am undecided, but I am leaning towards the annuity.

Maybe Jimmy is a spendthrift and an annuity was the safest way to control his spending.

Congratulations --he probably set it up for his children to receive any remaining annuity payments he's not around to collect.

What amount of money would you like to win?
You are right! I am surprised, since you can collect all funds less taxes. So silly to make an inaccurate statement. Naturally they do have the annuity 'option' for some instant tickets or the cash4life.. The multi state jackpots allow for cash vs annuity.
Mine will be cash and dash. I've zero desire or need for financial advice.

Wed. Powerball lottery jackpot jumps to $700 million
No, music, think about taxes. Now California is the only state with an income tax that doesn't tax lottery wins, since PA started taxing them. If you get the lump sum you lock the exemption in. But, if the state tax code changes and you take the annuity, you might be giving 13.3% of your remaining checks to the FTB. (Yeah, they let New Jersey annuity winners keep the exemption, but only because the NJ Lottery heavily advertised the exemption -- CA doesn't.) You, me, and every other resident of a
