Twelve things not to do if you win the lottery
I think the article had a bit of 'tongue in cheek' aspect to it. At least that's how I read it. Seriously enough it did point out errors winners had made (I recognized several). The tone of the article was pretty much 'don't do that' and you'll be ok. I still have problems with rules states have for claiming the prize, and not allowing winners to remain anonymous. Having to go public gets most winners off to a bad start and habits. If you can claim anonymously at least you can ge

Would you take your JP winnings and invest it all by yourself?
The kind of trust I would envision would of necessity require the services of a knowledgeable attorney. The situation would be quite complex and would involve people in several states. And I'd want an accountant to look into the community foundations I would contemplate using instead of setting up my own charitable foundation. My domestic partner and I have each independently invested and traded for decades, but if I suddenly had millions to invest, I'd definitely want to seek outside investment

$400 million S.C. Powerball winner to stay anonymous
Maybe reread this thread? I said that those states (DE, KS, MD, ND, OH) that allow anonymity are the only ones that state explicity in their laws that a person can remain anonymous. Some people in this thread believe that South Carolina is an anonymous state because in the Lottery Post article that we are discussing, this person wishes to remain anonymous. I've been saying throughout that they can wish it all day long, but that anonymity is not allowed (much like Arizona and all the other sta

NJ Powerball winner wants his old life back
The funny thing is, I had never heard of nor seen this guy until a MSNBC news article about him yesterday. I did not see the press conference last month with the group, and I don't watch TTS so didn't see him on that either. But here is a concept perhaps ol' Willie isn't aware of: the more interviews you give, the more people know who you are. Keep a low profile and stay out of the media and no one outside of your immediate vicinity will even know who you are. Give it 2 years they would have sai

Twelve things not to do if you win the lottery
So if someone finds a winning ticket (as mentioned in the article) they can walk in to the lottery office and say I found this winning ticket and the lottery will cash it no questioned asked? I don't think so. No disrespect intended, but I think they barer instruments only in a technical sense.

Lottery winner stays grounded after $220 million jackpot
Yep, CLETU$, that was what I was hoping to read too! Big disappointment that it wasn't mentioned in this article. I think that in year 2008 there was an interview with Brad, where he indicated that there were some snags, so he decided to lower his financial team's goal financial growth amount [amount was undisclosed though]!

CNBC writer looking for lottery players
Here, Bissonnette debunks Lustig's advice and gives his not-so-gentle take on why CNN flubbed this one big time. Jimmy could tell us his idol came to the same conclusion and wrote an article about Lustig's advice too. The thing is, Lustig's advice about buying at least ten scratch-offs is based on purchasing ten $20 tickets with a 1 to 2.34 hit ratio. It's not very good advice to a $1 a ticket player or someone buying one $20 ticket, but pretty good advice for someone who can afford to blow

Minnesota man claims share of $448M Powerball jackpot
I don't want to work for anybody else for the rest of my life for a paycheck. Didn't you read the article?
