Why Would Anyone In Their Right Mind Choose Annuity instead of Cash Payout for Powerball?
A modest 10% each year. Right. Good luck with that.
I ran some numbers last night, and if you go for a no-risk low-return investment strategy (i.e. I am more concerned with the return of my money than the return on my money ), you may well end up with more in the long run by taking the annuity.
Of course, with the jackpot this large, it doesn't really matter how - or even if - you invest. With no investment returns at all, you could still spend 3-4 million a year (with annual increases to

Why Would Anyone In Their Right Mind Choose Annuity instead of Cash Payout for Powerball?
i cant imagine filing taxes every year for the annuity payments.. pain in the A** lol
If you're in a state like NY and you're greedy.. i guess someone would go for the annuity in order to get more money.

POWERBALL CREATES WORLD'S FIRST BILLION-DOLLAR JACKPOT
I get what you're saying, and you are in fact one of the few people who would choose an annuity who has a valid argument. You at least recognize you will probably pay more in taxes later on with the annuity.
And I've also considered doing that for the same reason, but the thing I always come back to is this: I don't want to give a single cent more in taxes than I absolutely have to. Many states are imposing or trying to impose luxury taxes, high net worth taxes, additional lottery taxes. It

POWERBALL CREATES WORLD'S FIRST BILLION-DOLLAR JACKPOT
Let's say two twins in same state win the jackpot. One goes annuity and one goes lump sum.
They both pay the current rate in taxes on money gained in year one. We will assume they both use same tax strategies in year one to escape all the different deductions they could potentially take.
Twin Cash pays a ton more taxes up front.
Twin Annuity pays less taxes upfront
Twin Cash now only has to worry about future tax rates on the earnings they make from principle. Thus if Feds sud

POWERBALL CREATES WORLD'S FIRST BILLION-DOLLAR JACKPOT
Can someone clear something up about taxes? If you take the lump sum, they take out 25% then give you the check no? What about the 39.6%? Do you owe that next year?
If you take the annuity, if the fed interest skyrockets, do they up your checks to make up for the difference?
Also, in the unlikely event the lottery (pb for example) goes bankrupt in 5 years, and you won this year and opted for the annuity, what happens to your future checks?
Lastly, if more than one winner wins and one op

What Happens If There Are Multiple Winners?
Oh many people will be pissed but it's brilliant. I buy my doubles from a different store so if i'm lucky enough to hit, they don't come back and say it was so sort of glitch in the system etc . You could also take cash on one ticket and annuity on the other. Although taking the Annuity isn't every bright when you see how PB pays it out. If you're really close to your family, you give a family member a winning ticket. So many other option open up when you have 2 winning tickets...lol

$900 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot to create unimaginable wealth
In Texas, you pick at the time you buy your ticket. Cash or annuity. Vending machines are cash option only.
I did buy one annuity. It says $900,000,000. That's $13m+ the first year. I'm okay with that.

$900 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot to create unimaginable wealth
You don't decide cash or annuity until you win, you don't pick it before the drawing.

$800 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot approaches billion-dollar range
If it hits $1 billion, I'm going to buy 1 annuity ticket just to have that number on the bottom.
