Winning Powerball ticket in Mo. turned in
I would love to see Todd publish an in depth article conveying both perspectives. This is the most divisive issue on LP. I am as you say a QP Hater - lol. I think we are misunderstood but the back n forth without a solid reference as mentioned above would prove futile so I won't pursue this any further. Congrats again to the legitimate winners, who turned their ticket in on time and won't wind up in any pool litigation. Do well with your winfall

Powerball - Selecting numbers
Welcome to LP! You started your journey by sharing and that speaks to character. I have read this article as well and it has helped to shape my current strategy, but I don't use it as an absolute rule.

Follow-up: Would you take MORE money to NOT remain anonymous?
Thank you kindly! That's probably where I'd go with that as well. I think they know how to work out how much the taxes on your winnings would be on the spot. For example, New York Lottery used to have a scratcher many years ago called Tax-Free Million; because the tax code doesn't allow for an actual tax-free million, the top prize was supposedly an amount that would work out to a million bucks after taxes were taken out. However, as this NY Daily News article from 2000 alleges, their method

Florida woman hits for $10M on lottery scratch-off
I think you're ALL getting a bit uppity on this. She probably refers to her as wife because they are in the most committed relationship that Florida law can recognize. And the parenthesis statement was a means to explain why the term wife had to be quoted. Basic journalism 101 is that you would have to explain something like that in order to not confuse your readers or have them take it the wrong way. If Tuttle came alone to claim the money and took the picture by herself, none of this would eve

Iowa officials trying to solve lotto mystery, may release surveillance video
I was thinking the same thing while reading the article. The video may show someone who became deceased after that date of purchase.

RL's Digit Master Pro Big Game software download.
Hey again, did you get a chance to read that Wikipedia article I suggested? Probably not I imagine. If you doubt the usefulness it would provide here are just some of the cognitive biases it discusses that would help in the decison-making process. Clustering Illusion the tendency to under-expect runs, streaks or clusters in small samples of random data Gambler's Fallacy the tendency to think that future probabilities are altered by past events, when in reality they are unchanged. Iowa officials trying to solve lotto mystery, may release surveillance video
The article reads: I don't recall the quality of [the video] being excessively great, he said. But it's something to go with, something with hope. I wonder how many other lottery retailers also, knowingly, have poor quality video cameras and/or film?

Michigan lottery winner convicted of welfare fraud gets probation
The article claims that she took home more than $700k. That was actually the cash value and her net payout was a little over 400k. She paid over $250k in Federal and state taxes and apparently felt entitled to getting some of it back. With tax planning guidance, she could have easily mitigated her tax obligations and kept and/or received back from the state/Fed government well over the $5k that she scammed in welfare benefits.
