What if you knew a number was coming
This has happened !!! Back in the 1970's in Pennsylvania. I was working as an Industrial Engr in a large machine shop. We always had 5 or 6 bookeys in the plant. Back in those days before the lotteries were started you bet a 3 digit number with the bookey, and the winning number was based on the take in at a local horse track. Well when the state started running the lottery all of the bookeys started using the state drawn number as their payout number. It was great ,you didn't have to leave the

Powerball lottery jackpot reaches $250 million
Don't ask why I was on the CT lottery web site, because I don't know...just surfing. Anyway, it was interesting to read in their PB section that when jackpots reach $100M they authorize high traffic retailers to enforce their own House Rules including selling only QPs and limiting the tickets to 100 per customer. A winner also only has 60 days to decide how he wants to claim the prize and their 30 year graduated annuity looks like a total rip-off the way they show it, paying less than $2M for

computer states switching back to balls
I discarded my vote simply because I believe the switch to computers will occur prior to reverting back to a ball machine. This line of conversation reminds me of a short story I read many years ago in a Sci-Fi magazine. It was about how an individual had figured out how to fix the balls in the machine as such to allow only the numbers he wanted to drop. The idea is ingenius. It was a simple matter of coating the balls with a chemical and then applying another chemical to the exit. The two chem

so you've just won the lottery
1. Would you tell anyone you just hit it big?NO, and the most important reason is safety of my kids. All info would be on a strict need to know basis only (that means the Mrs. and that's about it right away... and even that is after the ball is rolling for establishing the trust and claiming the ticket). Even after some people that needed to know found out (relatives will wonder why you moved) the exact amount would not be shared.2. What bank would you pick for all your financial needs?Several

What is close?
When you compare your lottery numbers to the draw results, what do you consider close?I often read and hear of people talking about being close on their numbers because some of them were only one or two digits off from the draw numbers. For example, if a person selected the number 11, they might say they were close if the 9, 10, 12, or 13 were drawn. If they had several numbers like that, they would also consider them to be close. I don't exactly understand that reasoning. Are any of those numbe

Where is Paymenow Ron?
As a long time player of 6/49 yet new to pick 3 I found this thread somewhat childish. Its obvious that if one was winning on a regular basis that they would be elated to provide there winning numbers as it would prove to be a matter of bragging rather then a chore. Needless to say one could just post there winning numbers and leave it at that However in this case an actual scanning of the ticket and then upload would be required so we could see the date and actual numbers of the tickets. This i

Does God really hate gambling?
A bit of rambling thought from the resident goth....... (surprise), I actually have core beliefs that go along with Christianity... okay, so I am a Christian.I'm in a situation where I have to stay with my parents while my business venture is in the process of being set up, so I do have a bit of free money after all the things I do for the new store. I really don't think God is going to zap you simply because you put a bet for a lottery ticket, a blackjack hand, a poker hand ... It's not exactly

Number Systems and statistics.
Quote: Originally posted by wiseone2 on April 28, 2004I don't believe it's the individual member states that control the number of winners in their state. All member states are part of a single lottery network. The central computer makes all of the decisions regarding winners and where they are sold. The software is programmed to make the necessary calculations, etc., and then sends out the quick picks accordingly. I believe the system can be programmed to send out a specified number of wi
