$800 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot approaches billion-dollar range
Im hoping for one ticket, max two ticket winners. At being split in two each would have an annuity at $400,000,000 plus $248,000,000 for cash option puts you at #10 for annuity and #8 for cash option if you count it as jackpots. Both players would would be mad it got split but realize they are still in top 10 for both is still awesome.

Are you ready for the attention?
The only way one could become a billionaire by winning the lottery is if the jackpot exceeded $4 billion! through a series of unlikely events.
There, I fixed it for you. Depending on the state they live in a winner could net as much as 36.6%. In that case it would take an advertised jackpot of only about $2.73 billion to result in a net of $1 billion. It would also require being the only winner. I have no idea how many tickets would be sold if they advertise a jackpot of $1 billion, but it

Friday Mega Millions jackpot raised to $164 million
$5 million raise is relatively small on $159 million annuity.
Any raise at all is significant at that level, and in this case it's a 33.3% bump from the original increase. It might even be the first time they've done it for such a small jackpot.
Seems they're very desperate to drive sales.
Maybe. Lottoreport, com reports sales of $28.455 million. That would add just under $9 million to the cash value, and at the current cash/annuity ratio that's still not quite enough to raise the an

Making the annuity option more attractive?
Hardly anyone ever takes the annuity option on the PB (see winners stories link on the PB site). Clearly the PB still advertises the annuity value only for the publicity value of huge numbers.
They traditionally advertised the highest possible jackpot. Back in the day yearly payments were the only option.
With some reports of up to 70% of winners blowing it all in a few years, it would make sense for lotteries to come up with something to entice more winners to spread out the winnings o
