Wanted to update/correct my previous figures, as for some reason I thought there were only three interim prize periods, and there are actually four. Bottom line, 640,900 tickets need to be sold to fund all prizes to be awarded in the Raffle (interim prizes and Grand Prizes.) The duration of the raffle is 122 days, so sales need to average 5,245 tix a day. Based on the Lottery's figure of 169,906 tix sold as of 4/17 , sales are averaging 3,540 tix/day so far. OK, so for each of the three interim drawings, $704,500 in prizes are awarded. That makes a grand total of $ 2,113,500 in prizes for all three interim periods. The grand prize drawing will award a minimum of (10) $1,000,000 prizes, for a total of $10,000,000 in prizes in the Grand Prize drawing. So all told a total of $12,113,500 in prize money to be awarded. Now divide $12,113,500 by 20, and you have the number of tickets that need to be sold to fund the prizes. So 605,675 twenty

Evidently it must have been against company policy for employees to purchase rejected tickets The stories I've seen have said the policy is that employees can't buy (any) lottery tickets at the store they work at , not just while they're working. There's also the whole deception angle of attempting to buy the ticket in the hopes that the company didn't yet know they owned a ticket worth far more than face value. I just want to clarify on this comment. The ticket became the exclusive property of Circle K when the would be purchaser abandoned the purchase because of insufficient funds. The prize became Circle K's at the instance of the completion of the Drawing.

Paying for a ticket after it's determined to be a winner (in this case and the lottery club you mentioned) is not gambling. It's cheating. The ticket belongs to Circle K. By policy, they are required to buy the ticket when no one else does prior to the drawing. The money gets taken out of their lottery account the instant it is printed.
