$450 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot nears record
No harm in getting ticket(s) with an annuity option and some for the cash option.
If you won with the annuity, you be in the money for the long run.

The previous jackpot was $206 million with a cash value of $131.1 million.

MegaMillions is ready to be won again
It wouldn't surprise me, if at some point, MM and/or PB payments go beyond 30 years to say 35 or even 40.
I think the 30 year annuity is based mostly off the 30 year US treasury. Since there are no 35 or 40 year US treasuries, I don't know how the lotteries could promise a 35 or 40 year annuity.

N.C. man wins $4M lottery, joins friend in 'the millionaires' club'
Yep, TheGameGrl, all the other states are guilty of this misleading practice too! It's a shame that when we go to determine at these lottery headquarter's website it doesn't disclose anything to the effect of 'all jackpots over $1M are annuity values' without actually using the word ANNUITY.
However, the scratch-off and online tickets still sell ... so perhaps we gamblers are mainly a stupid or un-calculator, tax brackets driven lot.

Powerball Matrix Change - April 15, 2015
It only takes Powerball 6 drawings to reach $100M annuity because of the $2 ticket price. Powerball sales increase whenever the jackpot gets to $100M annuity, and it happens every other month.
The lottery will increase payouts and tickets prices to $5 eventually in order to keep up with inflation.

If you won a $100 mil MM / PB jackpot, and ended up losing it all...
Since I would have taken the annuity, I wouldn't have lost it thus I would be just fine.
