They've said why. They want bigger jackpots. When the jackpots are at 1B people who don't normally play will start buying tickets. The odds of winning are pretty much the same as before but now $5 gets you 1 ticket instead of 2 tickets. People who play every week didn't increase their budgets, they're just buying half as many tickets and the lottery is bringing in more money. I haven't played Mega Millions since the price rose to $5.00 per ticket in April. I wonder if Powerball will follow suit in the near future. Truth be told, I would rather the ticket prices be lowered at $1.00 per ticket like before when the jackpots were won at $300 million every three months. I think things are mostly going to plan for them. They are selling less tickets but bringing in more money. I'm sure they expected the under $100M to be a slower pace. Time to throw out the old MM play slips. If people don't play MM the jackpots won't be increasing as much due to low sales and PB sales will double. PB will then start having bigger jackpots and more winners. Then eventually they will get greedy and raise the PB to $5 a ticket too. Mark my words.
