Maryland Mega Millions winners claim prize anonymously
Everyone understands that complete anonymity is impossible. What you don't seem to understand is that people want to be as anonymous AS POSSIBLE to avoid the trash and scum that comes out of the woodwork when people win large sums of money. If you can avoid the large crowds of people that think they are entitled to your money, isn't it worth the effort to claim your jackpot anonymously? Why tell the ENTIRE world that you won a huge jackpot?Seems kind of stupid to me.
How in the world can yo

Illinois and the other non-anonymous states need to learn from this
I wonder if the MM or PB was starting up today, if there would be more anonymous options, or mayhap something of that ilk written into the agreements before states were allowed to join; simply BECAUSE of all the tech-y invasive possiblities that are available today...
At somepoint some idiot will get killed from all the press simply because they were not allowed the option of anonymity and the state or the MM/PB itself will get embroiled in a lawsuit that will go federal. That will be a sad

I want you all to know I have already won the next megamillions and am hiding my ticket now. It is in the glass case under the US Constitution at the National Archives (in Washington, DC) since no one will think to look there...but I may move it.
I will be wearing a raspberry beret that says anonymous megamillions winner.

sounds like something i'd say. suprised all the protectors of peoples anoniminity aren't bashing you yet. the names of this trio will be found out and revealed. they only went halfway with their anonymous claim. if you're going to do it that way and yes they have the right to then do it right. wonder how 3 layed off teachers in their school system feel about them keeping their jobs. want to bet they aren't all that thrilled for them.

OPINION OVER KNOWLEDGE
You know it's odd, there have been plenty of discussions on LP about remaining anonymous or not, and those got divided into Not telling anyone anything vs Sout it from the rooftops . This toime around is the first time people actually got viscious about not what they would do but wht other people should do.
I got a hunch that a few

anonymous vs. public disclosure
Well I think if one can just take off for a year that is great but a lot of people (maybe most?)have ongoing commitments and could not do something like that in an instant. For example if you are an artist, you may have contractual commitments two years in the future and cannot just walk away and disappear if you win the lottery. Or someone may be very active in their community and cannot just disappear. Or there are people in LP who run their own businesses and would continue to do so since the

anonymous vs. public disclosure
Your fallacy is that you assume all liberals want the exact same thing. Either that or you assume that since you're conservative, anyone who disagrees with you on any random issue is clearly a liberal . Regardless, you're off-base.
I think you've all figured out by now that my views lean more to the left than to the right -- especially when compared to your average LP member, it seems -- but I'd love it if NY went anonymous. So politics has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

People who want anonymity aren't being hoarders, they're being cautious. Charity doesn't work if it's done under pressure. It only has value when the person chooses what and who to give the money to. Privacy doesn't equal greed. But it does equal better control over the winnings and a less likely ability to squander them.
Most people who win the lottery want to continue living a normal life after the lottery. Being anonymous is the best way to make it possible.
