Florida woman mistaken for lottery winner
I dont get it. If you win $250,000 in Florida you are home safe and anonymous but if you oh so happen to win $1 Million + , your life is in danger ...

Interest In Backtesting and Simulating Lottery Systems
I was thinking the same thing RJOH. This looks like a scanned page of Anti-Lottery Anonymous Weekly. Maybe if we can convince him to flip it over, we can all read How I BEAT Monty Hall's car door problem! by Don Catlain.
Or it could be a sales circular for Krogers. In which case, none of us would have to leave the house to see what their specials are.

Should lottery winners share with colleagues?
^^^THIS^^^
As I am sure most of us are, I tend to be a very generous and trusting person, almost to a fault. However, like RJOH said, once you start the gravy train rolling, people will be at the station every day anxiously awaiting it's arrival. Win the lottery and everyone will have their hands out...friends, relatives, co-workers, neighbors, and people whom you never even heard of who have absolutely nothing to do with you. I also think many have contempt for rich people, and especia

Man gets 23 years for robbing Illinois lottery winner
This is just to try and address various comments made throuighout this thread.
The article didn't say Chicago but did say Cook County. As far as I know, residents of Chicago can't have handguns. Brilliant law, duh, so only the bad guys have guns. In the summer of 2008 there were more gun dearhs in Chicago than by U.S. service members in Iraq.
It's proven over and over that the cities with the strictiest gun laws have the highest murder rates.
Only two states do not allow concealed carry

Florida lottery ticket wins $182.1M Powerball jackpot
I have to say, I was in Florida for the Shuttle launch and bought a ticket for the Powerball. As we were driving home, I read that the winning ticket was from Florida! So for .00005 seconds, I felt maybe I had won!
Good luck to the real winner (wait a minute...they already have the luck!) and I hope you go anonymous!

Sucessfully staying quiet?
Because it allows us to fantasize that there is actually a chance that we might win.
I've known three lottery Jackpot winners over the past 35 years and only one remained anonymous--and he was the biggest F-U of them all.

Sucessfully staying quiet?
If the lottery allows you to remain anonymous it's up to the winners to keep quiet, it only takes one family member or friend to break that trust.
After you claim your ticket the lottery is not responsible for your safety.

$190M Idaho lottery winner sorts out her new life
You have a good point. With those kinds of odds, there is no guarantee that you will win anything. But there is no guarantee that you will win even if you play in the state you live in. But I would rather fly to an anonymous state once a year and buy a lot of tickets than have millions of people run after me after a news conference. Honestly, I would rather not win a lottery and work two jobs and live a normal life than win a jackpot and be used by greedy family members, long lost relatives, man

How long would you wait before claiming your prize?
You can't really go anonymous in Texas either. You can get minimal publicity but that still releases your name to the public so anyone you've met will know it's you who won (unless you have a very common name).
It is nice because they won't have a photo to send around but I'd still have to consider setting up a trust if I won. As I've said before, it would depend on if it was a multi-state lottery or just Lotto Texas.
